98 gt auto??

I just bought a 98 gt convertible. It's auto, has a k&n pk kit. I think it is stock other then that. My question is when it shifts it's hard and fast, it chirps the tires 1st to 2nd every time I hold it to the floor ?? Also it shift at about 75km and 5,500 rpm, does it seem like it has gears?? I don't think it does. Any help would be appreciated thank you. I will post pics of car when I get a chance.

Wow, that kinda of like asking the owner of a dog, what color the flea was that bit him based on the assumption that he should obviously know because you saw the dog scratching.


Anywho... Jack up the rear of the car. Have a buddy rotate your back wheels one full revolution while you count the number of times your driveshaft rotates (place a mark on the driveshaft and wheel(s)). That will give you your gear ratio. Both wheels need to make one full turn.

If one wheel turns without the other BTW, your traction lock isn't working.

Sounds like you may have got one that has some sort of tune already in it. Possibly gears too.

I also think that was a bit high on price. I just got my 2002 with 44,000miles for $10000. I looked at a few 02's and 01's with just over 100,000 for around $9k. Hope it's in good shape for you.

WHAT ? i bought my 96 gt vert 5 speed for $4500 and it had 65,000 miles > but take in to thought I got it from a pissed x-wife that won it in a divorce too

he said kilometers, 100,000 kilometers is about 62,000 miles.

personally i wouldnt pay that much for a non-pi car regardless of miles, but ehhh... i dont live in canada either...

The car looks good but you really need some different wheels. I never liked those, thats a crappy looking wheel to me.

Hey Bad Sheep. I got an 01 GT with just over 90k miles and Mine does the same thing when manually shfting from 1st to 2nd with tc on or off, but mine is stock all around! But sometimes when I leave it in D it will hit the rev lim before it shifts! does yours ever do that?

Nope, mind all ways shifts at 5.500 rpm. Never hits red line.

I doubt it has gears. Sounds like it's been tuned. When tuned my car it completely remapped the shifting points and firmness on the tranny.

Pretty nice looking GT! Thats not much more than the going rate for a GT of that year here where we live. I could get $12,000 (about $11,450 USD for comparison) for mine, and it's nothing special.
