98 gt refuses to go into reverse?

Drove my car about 3 hours ago, backed out of my friends driveway perfectly fine, now I try to put it in reverse and it seems like its locked out, doesn't grind or anything just flat refuses to go in to gear, what would be causing this?
Car is a 98 4.6 gt

What happens if you put the car into first gear and move it forward a few feet? Does this change anything?

Nope, doesn't change anything, doesn't Even help if the car is already rolling backwards, gear shifter won't even move towards reverse, basically has the same shift pattern as my old 4 speed jeep except the jeep has reverse where 5th is in the mustang
