98 GT

If it's clean and looks well taken care of then I would buy it. Details on it tho...stick or auto? Mods?

I have looked at a couple that are in the 165-175k range and would like to buy one but I am worried about maintenance also.

I don't understand how anyone honestly questions the longevity of these mod motors. There is a reason why taxi companies/police depts/and whatnot run these motors on a bajillion miles. They are very reliable

My GT just clicked over 210k today! I still feel the car is very relaible and has a lot of miles left. I wouldn't hesitate to drive anywhere in the country now, pending the blizzard warning has been lifted and the snow more or less plowed. haha

As with any car, maintenance is the key. If the car hasn't been taken care of, it isn't going to last. This means regular oil changes, trans fluid changes (auto), plugs, filters, ect. Obviously, you don't want to buy a car that hasn't had repairs made. If you find a bunch of accessories aren't working, then it may not be worth keeping up the car. Does it have working AC? Windows, lighters, pulls, doors, pockets and all the other little stuff is working? It's just not worth it to drive or repair a car that hasn't been fixed. That's a sign they just wanted to keep it barely running instead of lasting for a long time.

In my opinion the suspension components wear out the quickest and would be the greatest concern on a high mileage mustang. The good news is that suspension is fairly cheap and easy to fix.

This is probably true. Beyond the usual shocks and struts, I have replaced the ball joints (200k+ miles), outer tie rods (120k miles), and hubs (160k miles) on my GT. I have new inner tie rods that I should install at some point since one is getting a little loose.

I have 166k on my 97 gt. I have only had one problem with the car since i got it. I had a ball joint fall out at 55mph, but other than that its all good. Great power, great handleing.

Thats one awesome thing about the 4.6 2v they will run forever if maintained well, heck you can even give them heck 24/7 and they are still pretty reliable. I would have no problems picking one up with 150k or more, just always do you normal check's when looking at buying a used car of any kind
