Hi, I was wondering if anybody could tell me what an all stock 99 dynos at, and the same for the 01 and the 03 please. I definatly want to get a stang and I am looking to spend around 14,000 total. I was considering a 99 bc I can get one for about 9 or 10 then I had some mod money...but the only drawback is the whole underrated hp problem. Many of them (on ebay) dont specify whether they have been fixed or not!..is there any other way of telling aside from the dyno? I was also considering an 01 which I could get for between 10 and 13...this would leave some...but very little money for modding. My last option which I do not know if it is realistic is the 03 cobra. I love that car, but I do not know if the price will drop low enough for me to afford it. I also kind of like the idea that with the 99 I could mod it and learn more about everything. I would like a car with some balls...i dont need a 500hp dragster, just a dd that I could bring to the track every so often and fast enough to been the local ricers... any input is appreciated. Thanks!

03's go anywhere from 350-370 stock. 04's are a little higher.

You won't find a 03 for anywhere near 14K unless it is trashed...

2001 Cobra

I paid $21,700 for mine last June with 12,700 miles on it. I found it to be a pretty good deal (valued at $23,500). I don't think you could possibly get one for under $16,000 unless it has well over 60k on the odometer. But, to answer your question. Mine puts down 280 RWHP and 278 RWTQ. This is with a diablo tune, K&N and aero turbine mufflers (which sound real sweet by the way). Stock...probably puts down somewhere between 265 or 270. Good luck purchasing a Cobra! One thing you should consider is the price of tires and tickets. Im on my third set of tires (I have 45,000 on the odometer now), and I've gotten 4 tickets since last June. The best deal on tires I've found is about $500 for a set. All of the tickets were ridiculous...$100 for not using a turn signal, $400 for passing in the shoulder twice (which I was following suit and was picked out of a line of cars), $42 for following too closely, and $100 for going 36 in a 25. All BS. I had never gotten any tickets before, but thats the price you pay when youre a young guy driving a nice car...

License Suspension

Im 2 points away from losing my license in Colorado because i bought a Cobra. Every single ticket was for something that 90% of the traveling public does daily. I was singled out. Its not like I ran red lights, or was going 120 in a 65, or evading police, or having a 'speed contest'. Cops like to pull over Mustangs...period. So, be warned. If you do pick one up, take it easy. Drive like your Grandma.

Its not hard to make 500 hp on the 99 svt motor. But be ready to rebuild your rear end. The 28 spline IRS on the 99/01 is fragile. Speaking from experience. I make 460 hp to the rear wheels, and the car is very streetable. Hooking up at track is another story...

It isn't hard to make 500 hp...but the pistons won't handle it for long...

Oh and by the way, the 2001 Cobra is a 31 Spline. The 1999 is the 28 Spline.
