99-04 Pedal mod

How many of you guys and gals have done this mod?

I finally got around to making the spacer need for it. Well I tried to install it. I started with a spacer 1.125" long .375" in diameter, with a .1875" bore .1875" deep, a .093" thru hole and a.093 slot down the side.

Well i disconnected that and this got it in there. I be damned it is holding the throttle open (started it to be certain, she REVs quick!) Take it out cut .25 off it hook the cable back up. Still to long. Cut another .0625 off it, put it in. Started the car idled perfect. Pedal travel seems good. I had to take it out because I didn't have band clamp yet so it kept cocking on the cable.

My question is did anyone else have this problem? Or is the throttle cable length on '03 GT's different?

I didn't have the band clamp yet so I couldn't leave it on but it is deff. nicer then having the pedal so low. Heel toeing seems like it will be much easier then before. If the pedal was any deeper I would have a tough time and I have big feet!

I might even try and fine tune it so under light breaking the pedal is even with the brake instead of slightly above it.

I plan on stopping tommorrow after golf to get the band clamp I need. I will try and take pics before and after plus what the spacer looks like now.

But to put my mind at easy I would like to know if any one else had these issues.

Thanks!!

Had no problem with a small piece of hose and 2 small clamps on my wife's 01 - works perfectly, problem solved. We kinda just eye-balled the size, and trimmed it down once, then we were done. On my 02, for whatever reason, after installing the Accufab plenum and TB, there is no slack in the throttle - no mod necessary!

All mustangs are going to require different lengths. Mine took about a 3/4" spacer, and I used a drywall screw spacer thingy(don't know the name for it) and some zip ties. It works great, except that now I can't help but go full throttle through the gears. The best part is that you can control the tone of the exhaust alot better now, with the increase in sensitivity.

There was another thread on this a month or so ago. This link is worth another repost, though.

Clicky.

Six bucks or so is what I paid. The spacer works flawlessly, and by flawlessly I mean I haven't snapped my cable yet. :p

EDIT: I believe part of the problem with snapping cables is if the spacer is not installed correctly. In other words, if the spacer allows the cable to bend when the pedal is pressed, this bending weakens it and the risk of breakage increases. Am I wrong here?

I used a little 87 cent nylon spacer found at Lowes, along with a 2 dollar bag of mini hose-clamps. First i used the full length of the spacer, a little over an inch. THis took up all the slack but the gas was too high over the brake under trail braking, so I cut the spacer roughl in half, and reinstalled it. Now there is a hair of slack in the gas pedal, but they are perfectly even under braking now, which I greatly prefer.

Its a great mod, you all should do it.

Does the slack in the stock cable really keep you from going WOT? I don't understand why Ford would do that to Mustangs..
Yep.

look at it this way. Remember when we were kids and our hand breaks on our bikes would slowly stop working. It's because the cable streches over time. When we took up the slack in the break cable, the breaks worked like champs again. Same theory with the throtle cable, it's pretty much the same material. So if it streches, your not able to get WOT. I did the mod about 6 months ago and it works like a champ!! Takes a day or two to get use to it but the end result is WOT and alot more fun to drive. Almost seems like the car is more alive.
