bone stock 99 5 speed. idling it doesnt seem to have any noise at all but when driving it has a whistle ( strangely resembling the sound of a quiet supercharger ) and it changes with more and less throttle. i think the whistle is coming from the back of the car but im not really sure. its not the fuel pump is it?

thanks

learned something. i only thought the TOB would make noise when pressure is on the pedal. car needs a clutch anyway. guess i might can kill two birds with one stone

open the hood and raise the rpm's and listen near the iac valve and it's tubes.. if you hear the noise then raise the rpms at the throttle body and disconnect the IAC while it's making the noise and your opening the throttle by hand and see if the noise stops..

Some 4.6's will get a loud wistle or other strange noise from the iac.

Might not be it but it's worth checking since it's easy.

I got a whistling noise coming from the alternator... I thoght it was a bearing but it was the diode bridge or rectifier... use a mechanic sthetoscope...

If it's a whistle I would look for a possible vacuum leak, although that should set the check engine light. If it's a squeak I would look at the idler or tensioner pulleys.

Good luck,

Dan

BTW a tob noise is easy to check, press on the clutch lightly and see if it changes or goes away..

they tend to chirp at idle when your foot is off the clutch when they are bad, some of them will screech when driving..

well i popped the hood, started it and gradually changed the idle from under the hood. i could not get it to whistle for nothing. no noise inside the car either. its like it only does it while moving but still changes with throttle

I dont know if any of you ever own a turbo car, I have BOV ( blow off valve ) on my turbo Eclipse GSX AWD, it make a whisssssssssssssssss sound every time I change the gear.

my stang had TOB bad and it making the same sound, when I step on the clutch make me miss my old car . Im going install new clutch if I find a place that I can trust, that charger me under 500 buck.
