I recently traded up my perfectly running at 107K miles '99 GT with a '06 GT and am going through some shock..

I've had 3 Mustangs before, 1st one being a V6 (learned to drive in it), second one 5.0 V8, last one being 4.6 V8. The newused one, '06 is also 4.6 V8.

I absolutely LOVED how my '99 GT sounded when I started it, how the engine sounded/felt, how the exhaust sounded. Everything I've owned at to this point is stock, nothing is mod'd.

I got the '06 GT and am a bit disappointed by its sound. What changed???? It doesn't sound nearly aggressive and offensive as my '99 GT did. With my '99, I knew when it started, when someone else started it (like at the mechanics), and when it drove away. It just had that really really strong sound to it, and I couldn't help but admiring it as mechanics would drive it away.

Can someone tell me what the basic differences are and what might be causing the difference in how they sound?

Thank you~~

Ford relocated the gas tank to the car's belly... therefore moving the mufflers to the rear...

The sound difference is mainly because of the lack of longtubes...
Although you can O/R-H and add straight pipes...

S197's don't sound THAT bad...
but sn95's sound better

hmmmmmm

I see...

And what is up with the gas tank? I researched and found it's a common problem, but whyyyy??. '( At 3 out of 5 gas stations I've tried so far, it will not fill up.. I am so paranoid now that if it's less than 50 miles to empty, I immediately go to the station that works and fill up. This could cause problems if I'm driving some place I don't know and low on gas and the only station in the area won't fill up. Has anyone been able to fix this? I just see that most people just put up with it..

Would it be a good idea to have a gas can in the car? If I use like a gas can to fill from the pump and pour into my car from the can, will it work? I would probably need to know about how many gallons the car needs to fill up that way because it might over flow?

Rei_h, you can fill the tank it just takes a few tries and some patience. Try to fill it slowly (don't hold the pump all the way), it's weird that some stations don't have any problems and some do, but you can fill it if you try enough.

Holding the gas pump nozzle upside down has helped me fill up my 05 GT at times.

I miss the sound of my 01 GT with the bassani catback. The boomtube ab I have sounds great, pretty close to the 2v sound.

Good catch. I was thinking too far back to the 5.0.
