Hi,

I have my 2000 Saleen gutted right now, My engine is awaiting forged internals, cams a procharger supercharger as well as a viper T56.

I really want to beef up my fuel system from the stock returnless fuel system to a return system. Can anyone help me out on finding information on doing this? What do I need to buy and where do I start? CAn the stock computer work on a return system. I plan on getting a fuel management system but dont know which one yet.

I am not very familiar with a returnless system and am having a very hard time finding info for this procedure.

Thanks for any help!@!!!!

I know many say dual cobra pumps or whatever... But I talked to a guy who said it would be easier to switch over to 97 and pre gt stangs fuel system. So I think new line and stuff and the computer reprogrammed you should be fine... but not 100% sure!

Thanks for the info, What do you mean "go to the focus pumps" are you saying that the returnless system is fine with a better pump? I thaught that a return system would be more reliable?

I know that i need new fuel rails, but what exactly needs to be done to make my system a return system?

What do i need to buy, like for fuel pumps and where does the return line connect to in the engine compartment? to return the excess fuel?

How does the returnless system work? does the pump just supply the amt of fuel needed? how does the pump control this.

Sorry for all the questions guys, but I want to make sure that i do my setup right from the start. I hope to eventually get my car to 700 hp on race fuel.

Thanks

You have a couple of options. First question is how much power are you looking to make? '03 Cobra pump/tank, Focus pumps, or Aviator pump are good replacements for the stock returnless system. No one has tested the Aviator pump to it's limit, but from every indication I'm hearing up to 500 RWHP is feasible and it drops right into the GT bucket.

Regardless of how you improve the fuel system, it will probably need to be tuned. If you go return style you'll need the return line, rails, a regulator and you'll need to tell the computer to run the pump using a constant voltage. F/P in the returnless system is controlled by varying the voltage to the pump.

Just a couple thoughts.

Thanks, I uderstand the system a bit better now.
CAn you set the factory computer for a return system with a chip? And how do you pipe a return system into the stock tank?

The 03 stuff is suppose to be safe to around 600 .SOme have made more..Would i push that limit NOPE..I had a BAP fuse blow while in boost killing 4 pistons..So i went return style..
Sumped tank, braided lines, steeda rails ,custom fuel pressure sensor and a barry grant pump..It will feed all my car needs..Mine is tune via reflash and it works just as good as it did with the 03 stuff..

Troy, I would send Joe Lynch (that's also his screenname on ModularDepot.com) a PM on modulardepot. He has some experience doing this sort of thing. I believe he and Bill (white99gt) can probably best help you if you want to go return style.

Yes, there are settings that could be adjusted by SCT (Superchips Custom Tuning) and others - The reason I mention SCT is that I know for a fact the changes can be made.

Hope it helps!

Bill - That would absolutely suck. A fuse taking out a motor. One more reason to make the investment in a reliable fuel system.

I say it would, because it did ..But its all good now, just another reason i thought out and had some custom stuff made for mine .TO keep the best of the returnless and the best of the returnstyle in one..Now i have a fuel setup that will be very hard to outgrow...

troy --the stock ecu handles everything perfect..But i would recommend SCT racers package..It will give you all the control you need..If you need any help feel free to drop me a line...
