I was going to try and fix my a/c today, but that did not work out. I bought a can of r134 with a gauge test from wally world. Put it on, started the car and turned air on max. The gauge did not move I put it on a car with working air and it did not move either, so I think the gauge is garbage.

Anyways, I have read where I can "jump" a wire to see if it needs freon. Does anyone have pictures, or can I get a little help on this part.

Either the gueage is garbage, or you may have a leak in the system somewhere. Another possibility is what happened to me and your compressor is locked up...

I have a question for you.....did you buy the guage that you screw in that penetrates the can..? If you did, you have to then unscrew it to let the 134 into the system........If you knew that ....then disregard.............my guage I bought from AZ did not read until I did that and then the system started to get cooler.....this was on the Crown Vic the short time I had it...?

the gauge went up a little, so I decided to fill it. It went to blue, which is where it was supposed to be but, the compressor is not spinning

Does that sound like I need a new one? Or could it still be something else?

Im not sure what its called on a Mustang, but the pressure switch on my truck went out and the A/C would not come on because it thought that the system was empty and had no oil. See if you can jump it.

So when you turn the A/C on the clutch does not engage?

I guess the clutch is not engaging NM, it is.

I bought a can, with a hose on it that has a gauge attached to the hose. I don't think there is any type of screw on it. It went up alittle, but after filling it, it went up to where it was supposed to be.

on the passenger side fire wall there is a round tank with some piping coming out that has a switch which plugs in at the top with two wires in it. that is your low refrigerant switch if you unplug that and put a wire in the plug to jump between wires it should bring the compressor on if it a low gas problem.

I have had to change this out on my twice now. If this does turn your compressor on, go to the parts house and get the new switch. Don't leave the jumper on there for long because it will cause more damage. The switch is pretty cheap too.

:SNSign: that is what I needed to know.

Got the compressor spinning. I will have to check the pressure again tomorrow. Or does that mean I need a new lps?

I just filled it, but it only went to 15psi. When I started filling it, the psi was jumping between 10 and 35, then it settled at 15. How many cans does this usually take to fill? (this was an 18oz can)

it was leaking around the top for about the first 3 minutes so some probably escaped into the air.

Looks like autozones website says 7.00oz of a/c oil

You need to remove the plug for the low pressure sensor and put a jumper wire in it's place. That will make the compressor run non-stop, and you fill it until you get to 35 or so.

You have not jumped the low pressure switch.

yea, it is plugged in normal now. I was thinking it needed more r134, but with it is saying 125psi when it is jumped, or not jumped.
