is it just mine, or does anyone else's '05 a/c constantly click? It does it every 20 to 30 seconds. I thought it was the compressor going on and off so I popped the hood and it appears that it is actually the belt tensioner thingy. It clicks tighter, then it clicks looser...
I can't hear it when I'm driving (too much other noise). Only when I'm at idle with the window down.
Anyone else experience this?

You're not alone. My GT vert does it all the time too. It's the only thing on the car that's starting to annoy me. I'm going to have my dealership look at it the next time I have the car in for service. I've never heard a similar sound on any other car.

This is very normal, especially if you have the ac on low, so it will click on and off. Also, your fan will click on and off to blow the heat off from the ac.

If this is "normal", why haven't I heard the same pronounced sound on FLM and other models? It is noticably loud...maybe it's because sound proofing from the engine compartments isn't everything it could be.

I have this as well. I had it checked out and it is normal. Anytime you have the AC/heating knob set in any position other than "off", you're gonna hear this sound.

wow, normal huh? I haven't noticed it on any other type of car... maybe it's a Ford design to let you know that you have the A/C on... sort of like the chime that lets you know your door is open...? (that's a joke)
Couldn't they have designed something a little less annoying?

I know. But I have to admit, I don't really notice it anymore. Apparently Ford tried a lot of new designs/technology on this car, so stuff like this is bound to happen.
It's normal guys, my '01 GT did the same thing.
My 97 GT didn't and neither has any other FLM car I've owned or driven(Explorere, Moutaineer, F150, Mustang, T-bird, etc.). It's annoying and a poor excuse for engineering. If it's "normal" that means Ford knew the noise was pronounced but didn't install additional sound insulation to deaden it in the cockpit. Bad engineer! No soup for you!

Well i have noticed that these mustangs are the quietest engines ive seen, and the click, especially in a vert, will be more notiable than a car with say a fan clutch, diferent from our electric fans. (fan clutch spins fan all the time) My 88 cougar would click on and off to where it was noticble, but i have never found the cougar or my new stang to be annoying.

I can't hear mine unless the window is open.

the noise isn't coming from a fan going on and off. If you pop the hood you can see one of the pulleys click tighter, then click looser, then click tighter, then click looser, then click tighter, then click looser... see how annoying that is?
Maybe I need louder speakers (even though I've already got the Shaker 1000)!

I can hear mine with the top up and the windows closed driving at 25 MPH.

I've only noticed mine twice...and each time I was outside of the car while it was running. Perhaps I listen to my music too loud?

I keep reading that it's normal - but it bugs the crap out of me.

I swear I will pump my gas with the nozzle upside down without a whimper - I don't think my car has to be quirk-free..... but I WISH there was a fix for this extremely annoying sound. I'd pay decent money to get it muffled/eliminated.

You can turn the A/C to high to reduce the time that it clicks on and off or you can just turn your A/C off and it won't happen. This happens on our 97 Explorer with the electronic A/C thermostat. A similar thermostat must be in these Mustangs.

This is true, because the a/c only goes one speed, full out, so when its low, it will click on and off to reduce the wear and tear on it. And its the clutch thats clicking, and the same sound can also come from the fan turning on and off. Also, if its a hot day, and you have the a/c full blast at a stop, the ac may turn off to prevent excessive heat from stopping the radiators job of cooling off the motor...
