I dont know why it does this, I have never had any other car do this. When my A/C is on the car is a complete dog. I can punch it and it sounds strong, but it just does not move like it does when it is off. It also is making a sound like a supercharger when it is on. The compressor is pretty loud at high rpm. My car would probably lose to a civic with the A/C on.

Any ideas?

I've heard that you lose 20% of your power when the a/c is on. But its supposed to cut off at WOT.....maybe someone else with more knowledge will chime in.

Something I noticed after driving my 99 which had steeda UDP's, and
my 04 which doesnt have them yet. The air conditioner wont put as
big of a strain on the engine, seems like 50% less hp draw to me w/UDP's.
Anyone else notice that?

with your a/c making that much noise and power loss I think you have a seized or partially seized up compressor..

So with the A/C off you don't have the noise you described but with the a/c engaged you do? if so then buy a new compressor.

That is correct. Sometimes it does not feel that cold either, dont know if it is cause of the 100 degree temps outside though. I dont know if it is normal, but at an idle with the A/C on, it will kick my rpm up a little, then it backs down, you can hear the compressor kicking on and off.

Get gears - 4.10 or 4.30...that'll solve most of the loss of power issue.

My tuner did something that has made it rob less horsepower. It kicks on more frequently, just not as power robbing when it does.

The problem with the A/C is that it tends to heat soak the engine if you run it for a while in traffic. All the hot air from the condensor mixes with the hot air from the radiator and heatsoaks your engine bay and your car ends up a total dog.

Doesn't matter if it kicks out at WOT either, you lose a LOT of power.

If i sit in traffic for 20 mins on a hot 90+ degree day and then get to an area when i can floor it, my car is such a dog. It will bog off the line and then WOT feels like 1/4 throttle on a normal day.

I never notice such a dramatic loss in any other vehicles.

My A/C is ice cold though. I love it

I agree with Mike your A/C compressor is probably bad
and needs to be replaced. My A/C compressor on my car
was not blowing out any cold air.I had my mechanic look
at it and it turned out that my seals in my A/C compressor had two holes in them and the clutches were
bad.I had to recharge the system too.I ended up installing a brand new Motorcraft A/C compressor and recharging the system and the problem was gone.

Try a recharge first. Could just be you are low on refridgerant. If you have a mechanic you can trust have the system checked out.

Yeah I can feel mine kick on and off, and when it kicks off it sucks alot of power out of the car. I can imagine it also kills MPG.
