A/C problems...

Hey guys, my A/C isn't working, it keeps on blowing warm air, even after I have the car turned on for more than 5 minutes.
Any ideas. I wan't to keep it, so plz, no A/C elimanator comments.

Hopefully it just needs to be recharged, in that case I think you can just get a recharge kit from walmart or an auto parts store. I'd check it for leaks though before that...could save you some money in the long run. I really don't think A/C is the area of expertise most people have on here unfortunately....hope this helps a little, and good luck.

the same problem happened w/ my taurus (1992) so, from what I've figured out in the taurus, there's no actual reason why it's doing it, or how to fix it, but if the knob for the temp is on the cold position when you shut off your car, and start it in a while, you should be able to have cold air

however, this might not be the same problem, so hopefully, you just need it to be recharged good luck w/ it though

You need to see if there is refridgerant in the system.

Get one of the r-134a recharge kits from autozone that has a pressure gauge. Hook it up to the driver's side fitting. Check for pressure. It should be in the blue zone. If not, it has a leak. If it's fully empty, you could have more serious problems (like blown compressor, etc)

Add some flourescent dye, and recharge the system. Once it leaks out again, use a blacklight to find the leak. Repair the leak, and you are done!

Hopefully it's just a leak and it will be a cheap fix!

Yeah it could be a number of things.

Have someone turn on the a/c, while you are listening under the hood for the a/c clutch to engage the compressor. You should hear a click. If you can't hear a click your compressor probably isn't turning. So you will not feel cold air coming from your vents.

You could be, as said before, low on refrigerant or have water in your system. Or you might have a clogged system.

Also, if you do this yourself, remember that it's good to add oil to the sysem. The oil lubricates the pistons in the compressor, so its wise to add oil every time you recharge your a/c system. Our systems need 7oz. PAG (polyalglycol) for every full flush/recharge, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is PAG in the recharge kits you can buy at autozone...
