A few issues, but its running!

I have a 95 mustang gt that I have just got done rebuilding, and fired up today for the first time. I did a aode to T5 swap in the car and when I first went to start the car it would not turn on the solinoid for the starter. Now I figure it is the aod safty range switch that is not letting me turn the car over because I beleave I hooked up the nutral saftey switch for the clutch when I installed the pedals. So I just ran a wire from the battery to the starter solinoid just to start it up, but I am looking for a more perminate solution. Is there some way yo turn the aode switch off? also I am going to get a dyno tune and have them turn off the auto tranny and would that solve the issue im having? I also seem to be having some charging issues would that have anything to do with the tranny swap? the alternator makes a charge but the battery dosent hold it. and also the idel is a little high does anyone know how the idel control sensor needs to be set? sorry for all the questions but im just excited its running and ready to get it on the road. Please check out the my build and start video on youtube.com listed under "95 mustang GT build and first start" its got all my mods.
Thanks! :SNSign:

Did you use a T5 trans harness?

Are you sure you left the AODE shifter cable in the Park or Neutral position? You'd have issues retracting the key and starting the car if you didnt.

I did use a t5 from a 96 mustang 3.8 and put on a 95 bellhousing, I used it in a previous engine swap but it was all carb. I am sure the aode was in park when I took it out because I don't have any issues with the key. The tranny harness is from the auto just because the 95 has the o2 sensors on the harness that goes to the starter and the t5 harness has the o2 sensors on the tranny harness, and its from a 3.8 Do you know of some way to splice the wires on the transmission range sensor plug to turn the saftey switch to always on? I also need to still figure out the charging problem, Im going to make sure everything is connected tomorrow so nothing is draining all the battery juice. But I mean when the engine was running today it was like a charm, it idels really well and has good throttle response.

On the MLPS, IIRC the starter circuit is white/pink and lt blue/yellow. Check your schematics and vehicle with a DMM to be sure.

If you do this and dont connect the clutch safety switch, be careful because you can start the car in gear.

For the parasitic drain, use a test light or DMM in series between the disconnected negative battery cable and terminal. If you think your draw is huge, use a test light to narrow it down (otherwise, you can overload your DMM. Many have only a 10 amp limit).

Im sorry I am still kinda new to the terms, can you tell me what the DMM, IIRC and MLPS is? im sorry but I just dont want to screw it up. And also you can saying to hook the White wire to the pink and the blue wire to the yellow? I beleave I have the NSS hooked up for the clutch, and I think I read in another thred about pulling the "jumper" so the car wont start unless the clutch is depressed?
Thanks-

DMM is a Digital Multimeter, and the MLPS is a sensor that was bolted on to the auto tranny right where the shifter cable bolted on. I forget what IIRC stands for. Do a search for MLPS on this board and you should find a photo or two.

IIRC= If I Remember Correctly.

For this discussion, TRS (Transmission Range Sensor; your term) is the same as MLPS.

When you see a wire noted as White/pink, it's a white wire with a pink stripe (but it's just one wire).
I posted more info on Matt's thread that you bumped.

Good luck.

Ok I spliced thoughs two wires together you said and it started right up. I also took out the "jumper" that was up under the dash so you have to press the clutch to make it start. I also think I found my charging issue, There is a connector that comes off the alternator harness that I can't seem to find a home for:shrug: So I thought maybe someone could help. The wire colors are black/ yellowish green and its right next to the fuse box next to the battery. I have a picture but I cant figure out how to get it onto this page, I can post one if someone can tell me how. thanks!

If the cable is 6 AWG, it's your charge cable for the alternator. It's black/orange and has two fusible links near the PS pump.

On the side of the underhood fusebox, there's a little black plastic lid. If you slide the lid up, you expose a nut and stud, with several big cables attached (including the positive battery cable). The charge cable for the alternator goes there.

I got that one hooked up right, and there was a round clip that comes off the alternator harness also and that one got plugged in, but there was a male clip that came off the round one that I cant figure out were it goes, I have looked in the area and cant find a place for it. There was a relay someone rigged up when I bought the car, but I disconnected it because I didn't think it was needed it went from parts of the alternator harness and over to the other side of the engine bay next to the air filter were it connected to a plug that I couldnt find a place for eather, it was round with a red top? this is really bugging the heck out of me its the only thing keeping me from the road. I will post a picture of the plug comming off the alternator harness on my profile pictures if you wanna take a look.
Thanks!!

I think it figured out the picture thing, this should be it, you can see the round connector next to the bottom of the fuse box and the one resting on top of it comes off the round one.

I figured out what that wire was, it went to the A/C that I deleted and had to dig it out of the dumpster and match up the connector to it just to make sure. I think the charging problem might be the BBK aluminum pulleys I put on them. I think at idel it does not spin enough to keep a full charge so I am going to test it tomorrow with a little throttle and see if the gauge won't pick up some more volts. I had the alternator tested again today and it was right on the money so thats the only thing I can think of. all the fuses are A-OK on that as well. I will stay posted though.:nice:

Hey, Im just trying to bump this thread to see if anyone can help me solve these issues that as killing me! I have figured out the tranny wiring and that wire that went to the A/C pump. But I have another wire that I can not find a place for, the reason I ask if anyone knows is because when I bought the car there was a replay attached to this connector and the relay was also connected to the Alternator wiring harness. I can not think of why they would do this because I didnt know what that connector went to rhe connector is round with a red top, I have tested the alternator and it can back fine, but when I use a voltage meter its only reading about 11.50ish. I will post the picture and if ANYONE can tell me what it goes to and possibly why someone would connect a relay like they did, would be a GREAT help!
