Abaco Meter 1st Test

This is the first test, more to follow on other vehicles. The more power you make (ie power adder car/truck) the better your gains will be.
Well we finished testing the new meter on my car, still have lots of testing to do on another 94/95 car, a 2004 Lightning, and a 05 GT. We did all testing at PSI Motorsports, www.psimotorsportstx.com this morning and early afternoon. We had plans to test it on a force induction foxbody but the stock shortblock bit the bullet last night at the track. We had intended on doing the Lightning today but we spent so much time on my car, and the fact that Patrick was willing to let me borrow the dyno on a Saturday, I didn't want to keep him all day.

6 pulls with my old school 80mm plastic shorty Pro-M/PMAS meter:
419..52 rwhp
349.38 rwtq

6 pulls with the Abaco Performance 97mm:
421.45 rwhp
353.02 rwtq

There is also some gain all across the board, not just peak gains. Run06 is the Pro-M and Run12 is the Abaco. All runs were done consistently, made all pulls with the water temp at 125 degrees.

Overall we are happy with the setup. Patrick really likes the software and the ability to scale the meter calibration to fit your needs, he feels this will assist him with the two turbo lightning trucks they are building. I won't be racing much in the next few months, it is just too hot for that. I will say though the very first pull on the dyno was 402rwhp, so we defintely found some power.
 
Been waiting to her your thoughts on this. So over all from what you saw from the meter it meets the hype and its worth the four bills?

Also do you have any graphs that dont start at 5500 rpms? Anything lower in the RPM range
 
Sorry I don't have anything lower. My converter is a 5800rpm stall so we can't start the run any lower than what is shown.

Yes I truly believe the meter is worth the money. Having free calibrations and endless adjustability with the meter is worth the extra coin IMO. You can get pretty crazy with the software, I like the ability to rescale the voltage tables, you have control of Voltage input at the meter and Voltage output on what goes to the computer along with other changes.

Wes, the calibration I used is an unmodified 38lb calibration. There is only 36lb and 42lb calibration in the software but Rick @ AFM was nice enough to make me a 38lb calibration to use. My buddy who owns PSI Motorsports, is a big proprietor of SCT and he really liked the meter and the software. They do a lot of turbo Lightnings and have problems fighting back-wash in the meters. He feels he can tune around that problem with the Abaco meter/software. I don't race this time of the year b/c of the heat so I left the meter there at the shop. I have harnesses for all year models so we are going to test the meter on about 5 different vehicles over the next two months or so. A turbo lightning, bolt on 05 mustang, forced induction foxbody, and a mild 95 GT are just a few we are going to try. It is pretty neat in the fact that we are going to use the exact same meter on each vehicle. It takes about 1 min to upload the calibration into one of the ten spots.

So far, worth the money upfront and definitely down the road. The 97mm can support as much HP as 90% of people are going to make, therefore you will have a meter and software that can stay with you forever.

Thanks Troy, no screenshots necessary, I have the software. I was curious if ya'll had modified the transfer in any way and curious to see the matching PCM tune.

One last question out of curiosity and I'll leave you alone - did you buy this meter like a normal guy would when they first came out or did you work a deal with AFM to do testing etc?

The only reason I didn't touch the MAF Transfer Function was b/c I was doing all the tuning with the PMS. I didn't want to have two different places of adjustability.

With that being said I think this setup is great for someone budget minded. Spend the $ for the Abaco meter and then the user can adjust their A/F with the software instead of using a programer/chip etc. AFM has always been great to me, they are a sponsor on my website and have helped me a lot over the years now, I wouldn't work with anyone else.
 
Id like to see a test were they put the abaco meter against another meter of the same size not one 19 mm bigger, how do u know the power gained wasn't due to the increased size of the meter vs. being just a better meter????

thats a VERY valid point, a 20% bigger MAF only made a 1% gain......

Be that as it may, I think there are other benefits to this setup other than the HP gains. The ability to adjust your A/F ratio and have endless adjustability via the meter, be able to reuse the meter on any vehicle, have free access to any calibration you may need etc...

I wish I could test the low rpm driveability but just not possible for me.
 
Its not so much the size of these meters. Its the amount of air they can flow and even more importantly is how accurate that air flow is measured. The size is a factor but either way we are talking about 80mm+ meters and that should be enough for 99% of the people even looking for something like this.

It looks like it is fairly adjustable and one of those with a PMS would solve a big reason I went with the tweecerR/T over PMS. The PMS did not have any controle over the maftransfer (atleast last time I checked). This would solve that in a BIG way.

Sounds like it also works if you dont have a PMS and you just need to dail in the MAF for your needs. That sounds like a great option for drivability with the 94+ load based eecs that require/depend on a good maftransfer for drivability.

In the end its an option and more options is a good thing.
 
You are correct sir. If I have a simple heads/cam/intake street car, I would just leave the timing alone and dial in everything using an Abaco meter and the software, would be able to tune Idle to WOT with the software.
 
I got the 97MM meter today but how do I calibrate it for #36 injectors? I down loaded the software but I have no idea what I'm really looking at or what to put in for numbers to correctly calibrate it.
