About to buy a 68 Shelby GT500

The headline says it all - almost.
I saw it offered on ebay thursday, and send the seller a request to be added to the pre-approved list of bidders. The auction was less than an hour old, so there where no other bidders.
I later i recived an email from the seller (BN7500 on ebay) , saying the wehicle was located in Italy, and that it was mint condition.
This was wery interesting scince I live in Denamrk - less than 2000 mile away from the car. I told him that i was still wery interested in buying, and he offered me to buy it for $10.000 - cash. He wanted me to send him a $3000 deposit via Western Union, shipping the car upon recieving the deposit.
This is where I started to get suspicious... I have never used WU before, so i read alot about it on teir website. I found out that $3000 is the maximum amount that could be sent without enhanced security. Other than that I found out, that contrarty to what i thought, Western Union is not a "cash against documents" firm - they merely deliver the money with no questions asked - apart from the reciever identifying himself.
What really made the whole thing fishy, is that I havent heard form him scince Friday, and I've send several emails asking about further details on the sale, documents and stuff like that.
I was supposed to send the money today, and have decided not to. I do not expect to hear from him again, and if I do, i will personaly deliver them money to min - it's less than 5 hours of travel from Denmark to Italy.

I'm convinced that he was a hoax, trying to trick me into wiering him $3000, and then dissapearing.

Did I do the right thing, or have i passed out on a major oppotunity? I really don't know what to think.

BTW the auchtion on eBay is no longer existing - it was removed by him, when i tryed to check back on it after recieving the first mail from him.

It is a hoax, he stole the photos from someone else's auction. We've seen the same scam too many times in the past few months. Walk slowly away. Now if you insist in sending someone $3000, you can send it to me with the knowledge that it will be invested in my '65 Mustang coupe, therefore supporting a fellow Stanger.

There was a simialr one on a 67 GT500 not long ago. The guy said the car was in London, and he was selling it for 14,000. Those auctions dont last long, Ebay usually pulls them pretty quick. I wrote the guy screwing with him for a couple days, then finally I think somehow his computer got infected with a nasty little virus that melted his hard drive. Its a shame that that scam survives, it only means some poor fellow that honestly believes hes getting a rare car for a steal is getting schlonged for his "deposit".

Just checked back on eBay, after all, I do have 10K here on my desk, so why not see if it could be used somehow...
There where 3 new listings - all about GT500's, 67/68. All the listings looked wery much the same(types and graphics) , though they featured 3 diffetent cars... but all at a "buy it now" at about 8-9K.
Danm - didn't realize the there where so many hoaxes on eBay... Oh, and they where all 1-day listings.

I saw a few of those. I like the part about "don't worry, I'm a square-trader with ebay, if you don't get the car, ebay will pay you back your loss". Only 1 problem... Ebay is very specific about "The buyer, the seller and the car must ALL be in the U.S. when the transaction is done". Funny how all the cars I saw like that all had owners in the militiary and Lufthansa would ship the car cheap. Must be a few turnip trucks still out there for these guys to still be at it.

I seen a deal on a 69' Boss 302? I think it was, a few days ago on E-bay for like 3k or some really low price for a "mint" car. I E-mailed the buyer and said i'd buy it if I could come and look at it first but he was conveniently located in England. I knew it was a scam which is why I asked to go and see it first.

Here's what you do..............call him back and say you are coming there, and set a date, and never show. He gets all worried that he is going to be found out and looses sleep over it. You have a good laugh at the scamming prick.

I've inquired about two mustangs on ebay recently. They seemed like the pic's were from someones house in the driveway. Both cars were at a great price. I sent two seperate emails with questions about the car's, and got this long reply about how the cars needed to be sold this weekend due to a child's sickness, they needed the money for hospital bills. Both emails said the cars were in England but shipping will be paid by the seller and a ebay shipping company will be used. I knew it was bull$*!t, They asked for 3000 down payment to begin the process...If you are stupid enough to send them your money than you deserve to take the loss, I don't know how some people could believe crap like this. DOn't buy anything unless you see it in person, pic's are also very decieving, take a trip and look at what you want to buy if your that interested in it, believe me it will be worth it in the long run.

They're all scams... These have become so common over the last year that it's just funny now. There have to be a dozen or more a week, and that's just the Mustangs, not including all the 'vettes, Camaros, hemi cars, late model Supras and a bunch of other cars that these scammers regularly post auctions for. They're all the same... some super desirable car for some un-heard-of low buy-it-now price, "email me before bidding", the car is always overseas, etc, etc etc. At this point, anyone who takes the bait is too naieve to even own any of these cars.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, especially on eBay.
