Well, i have finally saved up enough money to get a Rod and Custom full suspension.

I have decided to purchase this system because it comes packaged with disc brakes, power steering, coils, springs, shocks, and the full package for my front end.

I figured that there was no way I would be able to get away with what im getting for 2500 anywhere else, the power steering alone is 1200, and another 1000 for disc brakes...thats not including all the other stuff I get.

Currently my shock towers are gone, so I figured major repair was in order anyway, why not just cut them out, fill em in, and weld in a crossmember?

I am after rough play and a nice ride, am I making the right decision?

I plan to drop in either a 302 or 351 with EFI- have not decided yet.

I have also purchased GW subframes to help with any problems that removing the shock towers may cause in the longrun

Again, im after longlivity, comfort, and a fun to drive vehicle. Am i making the right choice before i slam down this 2.5k??

I have used the R&C kit on my own cars and installed many os them on customers cars and I personally think the kit is well worth it, you just plain get everything you need without having to source out anything. You could do it cheaper with junkyard parts but why? This is just the way to go you wont be dissapointed!!!

Have you considered the 4.6 swap. I''m thinking about it since my stang is in need of major surgery. Everyone will say this and that about how much faster/cheaper it is to build up a 302/351. I would like a 4.6 DOHC just because I've grown to love the sound, and yes there are cams that will give them the old school muscle car lope. Only thing is, parts are so expensive .

Well, technically yea that is the combo. However I think that one's price is so high because it's the cobra R engine/tranny.

You could do some looking online, in your town, at police auctions. Look for wrecked cobras, or even mark VIII's to swipe an engine from. The guy I got my 5.0 efi engine from is puttin a 4.6 dohc from a wrecked navigator into his 1991 gt. It's all about how resourceful you can be, or you could buy brand new stuff like in your link and spend way more if money isn't a concern.

The 2000 Cobra 'R' is a 5.4 liter.

Yes it is, but the 5.4 is the exact same dimensions as a 4.6. It just has a different intake setup if I recall. I'd have to verify that for sure.

I've looked at the mod motor swap, and have come to the conclusion that for EFI DOHC, it is too much compromise. It's heavy and a small capacity motor. Even the 5.4 isn't that big, that's about 331CI. You can stroke the light (even lighter if you opt for aluminium, but $$) and small 302 block to 347, and no modification is needed to the car to put it in.

Sure the supercharged cobra motor is nice, but I'd prefer to see a twin turbo 347.

with a 4.6, shock towers definitely gotta go. I guess thats part of the R&C kit, eh This isnt any newsflash, obviously, but you are talking a *****pot full of money

Before you get any more serious, I would talk to Dave Stribling at DVS Restorations. He wont steer you wrong on Mod Motor-into-vintage-Mustangs issues.
