Hi I am new to the forum. I just bought a 1999 Cobra Convertible this week. Love the car, but I have the ABS/Traction problem as well. Any new tips since the last post? I am afraid to get hosed by our local dealer...
Good morning all. Am writing from the UK as the current owner of a 2000 GT Convertible with 140k+ on the clock. Have had the car since new.
I have had the abs/traction control light issue as mentioned in detail above by the forum posters for some time now. Unfortunately for me, after extensive testing by the UK's leading Mustang specialist (The Mustang Workshop), the news is not good - apparently there is non-communication from the Anti-lock ECU with the rest of the car and despite a full diagnostics check, there appears little other than a very expensive investigative repair (not many Mustang specialists here in the UK). Formal feedback I have had is "diagnostic code check -fatal error diagnosed").
The car is perfectly safe and drivable, but the only solution now appears to be to go through the entire cars electrics to assess whether the ECU issue is with the Anti-lock ECU specifically or elsewhere in the car.
Has anyone else had this issue and was there any other form of solution? I doubt it highly as I really rate the company here, but with the miles on the clock and the likely extent of the bill which in itself is tough to even estimate (could be potentially very large as source of issue unclear), it brings into question the worth of undertaking the repair for the long term. Any thoughts appreciated.

The electronic part of the ABS control unit died in my car. I followed the trouble shooting guide in my repair manual and determined it was indeed dead and replaced it with a junkyard unit and that fixed it. Unfortunately, mine is an earlier system than your '00 so the diagnostic procedure may not be as simple since your ABS is little different and more tightly integrated with the rest of the car's control systems.
If the ABS unit is getting power and it's not responding then the most likely thing is that it's just dead but since they're kind of pricey (unless you can score a good used one at a nice price) then it pays to be sure.
Perhaps someone with the service manual CDs can offer some more info on troubleshooting the system.
I have a 2001 Mustang GT and I just switched my stock wheels for 18x10 Saleen wheels after I was done putting them on I drove on the freeway and as soon as I hit about 50mph this green indicator light would come on the dash it I am not sure what it means it sort of looks like a turbo. When the light would come on I could not accelerate felt like my car had no power my rpm would go up but the car had trouble picking up speed and when I let the car slow down to about 40 mph it would turn off and then back on close to 50mph. I thought it may have something to do with the traction control but was not sure so I turned off the traction control and the problem would stop.
Any thoughts? I would like to know if I can fix this ass I would like the option of having my traction control on without messing up my car.
