AC bogs car down

When I run my AC it toally drags my car almost to the point of shutting down when at idle. How can I combat this? Is my compressor pump going out?

Any ideas? Thanks

Oh btw this is a 88 5.0 bone stock 5 speed.

How bad we talking here??


When i run the A/C in my '03 GT, it feels like i lost 150HP and the car won't eveb get out of it's own way after some time idling in traffic.

A bad IAC or overcharged AC system are two places I'd consider.
