Well it's that time again. I did a search here but couldn't get my question answered. How many cans is it going to take to recharge the AC? I already know I need to vacuum the lines and such, just need to know how many cans I have to pick up today after work.

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

I think it takes about 4 cans. You can always buy extra and return what you don't use. You can't overcharge the system. It will only suck in what it needs.

Yes you can overcharge a system. Cooling efficiency will drop (diminishing returns type of scenario) if you overcharge.

The system holds just over 2 pounds IIRC.

Good luck.

Thanks. I'll make sure I don't over-charge it.

hissin, your memory is correct...2.13lbs

yukisho, don't forget to see how much oil you pull out (during evacuation) so you can replace it. remember to use PAG oil for 134a systems.

I usually put in 3 cans after the system is sucked down and it blows ice cold air.

I know. Got it done and it blows so cold. Ended up turning it off the lowest setting and driving with the window down. Summer will be great.

I always use a 30lb tank to fill. I have never gotten a Ford to suck more than it needs. You can leave that tank hooked up for half an hour, it doesn't matter. With a Ford, you're lucky if the suction side gets up to 2 deg C.
