I have a 96 GT that I would like to take the AC out. I have used it maybe twice since I bought the car and dont really need it. Anybody got any input or suggestions on this, or has anybody done this?

its easy. just a few bolts but you will have to get a shorter belt made or buy an AC delete kit. I just cut the lines at lead into the firewall.

The AC condensor may be difficult.

So beside just getting a shortet belt, the only thing I need to do is just remove all the AC components and lines? I know that on the 5.0 motors there was talk about making sure that the water pump was still spinning the right way, is this true for the 4.6 too?

no, nothing should effect the water pump. I would recommend just buying the AC delete kit. Summit carriers them for a cheap price.

Unless....you are seeking drastic weight reduction measures.

You could seek out a shorter serpentine belt to bypass the compressor pulley as another option.

A/C Deletes =

A/C deletes are like vasectomy's.. there's a chance it can be reversed, but don't count on it.

I need an A/C for may car, dont listen to these buffoons..PM me a price. BTW just get a fuel line diconnect tool to release the lines, and 4 bolts hold the A/C compressor on the block.

It's not even that much of a reduction. Maybe 20-25 pounds or so.

I did delete the A/C off my 5.0, but it wasn't working and the car is not a daily driver anyway.

I could never yank the A/C off my GT though. Besides 100 degree days, i need it to defrost the window more than anything else.

Yeah, the operative word being drastic.

I don't see the point, really, unless the vehicle is going to be a complete track horse.

to the OP. you *do* know that having AC does not rob any horsepower unless you have it turned on...right? And ALL of the A/C components only weigh about a total of 30lbs...so its realy not worth taking out...
