i had a new accel supercoil on my mustang ,it ran but just didnt seem to run right,i pulled a plug and checked i had a yellow spark ,i contacted accels tech department they said thats perfectly normal, which also took about a week to get an answer from,so i contacted msd got an answer within 24 hours,so i bought an msd blaster coil, nice blue spark runs fine now,its pretty bad when a company has to lie to there customers to cover for there junk products,i think i will stick with msd they seem like a pretty decent company to deal with ,just thought i would pass this along ,so accel doesn screw you guys like they did me

most accell supercoils are designed to work without the normal ford resistance wire, if you didn't remove the resistance wire that could have been the whole problem, just FYI. it may not have been the product at all, not saying that's for sure what happened but i've seen it happen many times.

resistance wire

no resistance wire ,we rewired the whole ignition, when installing engine, swapped out the new accel super coil ,and put a new msd 8202 blaster on the same wires ,picked up a nice blue spark,it was definitly the coil, accels tech tried to tell me yellow spark was normal and would turn blue as rpm increased, that might work if it was a magnito:notnice:

I had an accell supercoil for years. Never had a problem.

I've always been a believer of the "you get what you pay for" wisedom... and Accell stuff has always been on the cheaper side of things..

I've had the opposite problem. I bought the MSD 6AL and it worked great till the first time the car was parked outside in the rain. I sent it back and they fixed it for free. A couple of weeks later after washing the car it quit. It is now a paper weight. I know its just bad luck since I've seen daily driven cars that have had the same box for years with no problems.
For the last couple of years my ACCEL 300+ Digital Ignition and Coil has worked perfectly mounted in the same location.

ive had the accell points eliminator kit in my coupe for 2 yrs now no problems... but all these responses scare me... with my engine the way it is would i benefit from an MSD ignition?

I perfer MSD stuff. But I fried a 6AL on my bosses 67 washing the engine down. Sprayed on some Engine Brite foam and hosed it off. The box was mounted on the fender apron. Had a spare on the shelf so was a quick fix. But it was just overspray. Not blasting it with water. Must have got in the bottom cover. Am much more careful with MSD boxes and water now. Had a Jacobs system on my 93 and have soaked it repeatedly. Never a problem. We also use the Accel point conversion kits instead of the Pertronix. Haven't had one come back yet. In fact, the last one we replaced was a Pertronix and I put my fingers on it to see if it was loose (no start problem) and it fell apart in my hands! Replaced.

Oh yea, if your Accell unit is good after 2 years your probably ok. Even if it fails it would still be cheaper to get another one. The MSD box isn't going to do much for you without some engine mods. Higher RPM reliability.
