I posted that I got rear-ended a couple days ago. I went and got two estimates and one was $404 and the other was $380. The girl that hit me wanted me to take it to some shop she heard of so I did just to be nice and they said about $300 but they gave me no paperwork like the other places. I am just wondering who decides where to get the work done at? This will be staying off insurance most likely. Also, does a check just get made out to me or how does it work? I am thinking that I would just rather have the money and use it for some other mod. If she gives me a check do I have to use it to get the work done or can I do whatever with it?
Thanks guys/ladies.

you decide where you want to take it. if you aren't comfortable with a shop, go somewhere else. if the price sounds too good to be true, it probably is. a lower price usually means lower quality.

If it just you and her and no one else.. she will have to give the check to you I assume.. I've only been in a situation with an insurance company..

Anyone know if I HAVE to use the money to get the damage fixed or can I use it however I want. Just don't know if there are any legalities involved.

you do not have to use the money to fix the car.

I always do a drive by of the places where I can get it fixed locally. If you can see into where they work I check to see if they look like they are taking their time or if they are trying to pound it out as fast as possible.

On one instance I had taken my previous car (Camaro) to one place to get an estimate. I saw that they were taking their time working on the cars to get them right. They had a lot of cars there but they had them parked out of door ding range and were just overall doing a nice job. Plus I saw some of their finished work and the cars looked great.

Next I went to a place that the lady that hit me recommended. This place had cars just stacked all over the place..right next to each other, bumper to bumper. The guys inside were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I also read on the internet that they had some of the highest turn around of any body shops around. I could see that I didn't want to take it their because they were just going to pound the car out as fast as they could and I didn't trust that the quality would be the same.

If a police report was not filed, and you are not going through insurance you do not have to use the check that is made out to you to fix the damage.
Is that a run on.... yadda yadda yadda... 1/2 hour left o werk, then I'm taking my babay out for a RIDE!
