Advice needed! 2010 vs. 2011

Hey guys,

I am interested in buying my first Mustang. I have been a long time fan and I'm ready to finally buy one.

I went down to my local dealer and I found a Sterling Gray 2010 V6 Premium for about $27,430 with 0% financing.

a) Is this a good deal?

b) Would it be worth the wait for a 2011 V6??

I am concerned that with the increase to 305 HP that the price of V6 will be around 32K.

I didn't know V-6's could get that high unless it's a convertible. I'l def negotiate a little on the price, paying sticker is not an option they will want to get rid of the left overs dirt cheap.

I'd think you could pick up a base 2010 GT premium for that price...there are better rebates on the GT too.

I have to agree that is way too much for a V6 unless it is a fully loaded convertible.
I think it ought to be at least $3000 cheaper.

Well it's pretty loaded. It has a Pony Package, heated seats and the auto transmission adds about $2,500 to the starting price $25,000 for the V6 Premium.

Im trying to negotiate to bring it down about 2K.

Any thoughts on the idea about holding out for a 2011??

Hold out for a much lower price or a 2011. The stang must compete with the maro, and thats around $22K base. You could either pay $26 for a new V6 in a few months or maybe get an old V6 for $20K or less.

Make your decesion, just remember the new V6 has more power (240 vs. 305) and better milage (26 vs 30), but you will be paying more than last years model.

P/U my 2010 Mustang GT Premium Sterling Grey Track Pak ONLY tomorrow morning for 29k OUT THE DOOR. (includes 6% MD tax, tags, freight, processing fee, service charge, blah, blah, blah, LOL)

Guess that makes the price paid 26k, maybe just under?

Now I got some MONIES left over to play with !

Future 2014 trade in... possibly we shall see... yippeeee

I am/was dead set on a 2011 but yesterday drove a track pack 2010 and what a nice car that was!

I will only buy a white GT premium and if the dealer had a white one with the track pack I would have bought it on the spot. The 2010 I drove had a list of around 34k and was marked down to 27k. The salesperson I worked with, who by the way simply handed me the key to the 2010 and said take it for a spin, built a 2011 the way I would want one and the MRSP was over 37k. He'd order the car for only $400 over invoice but I am still looking at a $35k purchase price. Getting a new 2010 for over $7k less is a one very good deal. True you don't get the performance of the '11 but since my daily driver is a truck, the 2010 still felt like a rocket.

I now am much more open minded about getting the 2010 at a big discount over a 2011.

If you want to save money and go for a v6, i think the 2011 is the best way to go. 300hp and 30+mpg.

If you are going to option the v6 to above $27k, i say just get the base 2011 V8 or a extremely discounted 2010 V8.

The dealer lowered it down to 25K and I think i will go for it. Since this will be my DD, performance is not that big of a factor. Maybe later on I'll get a GT500?

it seems that as soon as i start making more money. the cost of a mustang go's up more also

Sorry...but I have to put my 2 cents in here. I think 25K is a ridiculous amount to pay for a V-6. Even with the pony package that is way too high.
I would think it wouldn't be worth anything over maybe 23K. I bought a new '09 GT with the panoramic glass roof for 26K. Yes, it was a leftover, but it was still a V-8. And for $250 more I was able to get sync installed.
Seems way to high. Just my opinion from what I've seen out there.

Maybe this wasn't clear before. This is a V-6 premium (leather, power seats, sync, etc.) with a pony package, not a base V-6.

If I understand you correctly, your dealer is offering you 0% if you pay sticker price? Around here, '10 GTs are going for $7K off sticker and V6s around $5K off sticker including rebates (approximately what Brian's store is doing in WA). So you may end up paying a high price for that 0% unless there is a dealer discount or rebates on top of that.

If the 0% is direct from Ford in lieu of rebates, you really need to do the math of this deal vs. taking the rebates and obtaining your financing thru a bank or credit union (or even Ford Credit at a higher rate). If the 0% is from the dealer on his own "buying down" your rate, then that amounts to a discount from whatever your interest rate would be otherwise. In any case, you should be getting a large dealer discount from sticker in one form or another on a 2010 at this point in the model year. My '10 GT had a $4500 dealer discount off MSRP before rebates were applied, and that was back in January!

Dealers are entitled to a fair profit, but I'd hate to see you overpay!
