i bought some control arms for my 89 LX and the day before i tried to put them on, my starter went out. so i replaced it and it still clunks once the vehicle fires up. it just grinds now and my flywheel looks horrible. so i drove it to my dads and put it up on jacks. im gonna replace control arms and well im back there put new coil springs and shocks. well since i did those on the back im gonna put new springs and shocks on the front. then to fix the starting problems ill replace starter cylinoid and flywheel. and as long as im doing flywheel ill replace clutch. i already read the thread on the clutch/flywheel replacement and know how to do it and all the little things to replace in there. also my engine is idleing wierd its kinda of "sputtering" and the floor boards rumble when i rev up. this is because i replaced drivers side motor mount and still have passengers side to do (I hope thats why its rumbling) i dont understand the idle problem. i recently put bosch platinum spark plugs in (oops) is that the idle problem maybe? finally when i push-start it and finally stop it there is a burning smell. (starter/flywhell grinding maybe?) as long as my car is in pieces does anybody have any suggestions on what else to replace to fix my problems? any input on anything would be great.

some starters require shims for bendix to ring gear meshing. also, when you said your flywheel is chewed up, do you mean the ring gear is chewed, or the whole flywheel?

for the sputtering, have you pulled codes?
a plug swap to coppers will be cake compared to the rest of what you are gonna do - might be worth doing.

as for the rest, good luck (since you are gonna end up doing a ground up resto on it, from the sound of it. ).

Maybe the burning smell is your brakes? Sounds like the motor mount making your car shake. Check your vac lines for the idlng problem. Get rid of those bosch plugs and get autolite. BTW IMO i wouldnt do one side at a ime on the motor mounts i would of done both at the same time. One thing i learned on my other gt is. Fix it right the first time and research the task before taking action.
