so i just want to go a little faster. i love getting 18mpg sometimes though. i know im limited to exhaust stuff. but i was wondering what i can do to go faster in a straight line besides that. MAF? bigger t-body. i was thinking of bumping the timing and relocating the battery to the trunk for starters. also what can i use to clean spark plugs?

speed kill mpg, the only thing that I can think of that would help in that dept is to change your gearing which will kill your low end or to get a larger diameter tire, which will also kill your low end.

iim not that worried about it. im just saying things that dont hurt mpg, like exhaust stuff. build on that.
My car gets mid 20s on the highway, and mid to high teens around town... My stuff wasnt that cheap but buying a lot of it used has helped me. Theres a lot you can do that wont kill mpg. I found that with the stock cam and driving sane has helped me keep stock mpg!
Anything that improves airflow will help MPG and HP.....if you can keep your foot out of it. Thumpers/Tmoss/TFS1 with T5 and 3.73's and i still can pull 21 mpg on the highway
We upped cams on my 86 (Cobra cam or something... I was 17 & don't know what it was) and kept the rest of the motor stock...
Ended up with like 22 mpg on the highway, and 19-20 city. That is about 3-4 mpg better than it was, but it was a newly rebuilt motor so who knows.
That was with full exhaust, underdrive, headers, k&n and A shorter belt.

2.73s actually gave me worse gas mileage than the 3.73s, and the car was worlds slower. A 3.55 might be a nice gear for performance and mileage. With a 2.73s you would be hard pressed to get good mileage and run good track times. Basic bolt ons, gears and suspension stuff will make the car faster and shouldnt hurt mpg!
so basicaly i can make my car faster without doing a H/C/I i just dont feel like its worth it if you dont get a hci. what d you recommend that isnt hci stuff that will make it faster.
go with a combo like mine. I got the egr and tb for free, I got the explorer for about 50 bucks for upper and lower with fuel injectors, I am gonna get a maf for 100 bucks 73mm, and gears and it will be peppy and get decent mileage if you want, I don't care what mileage I get, I DRIVE my car!!!!
I like mileage, and when it comes down to it I can abuse the car and it runs hard. Its fun having a quick street car that will still get mid 20s on the highway!
i dont care either. i just want to hold off on modding allot until i get through school. i know as soon as i do something to make it faster ill just end up breaking my balls to make more money to make it faster...
Yeah that's true, but I want to go faster/look better/handle better all at once. I just spent this weeks paychecks and I don't even regret it, its all about how bad you want it. I am just leaving myself room for later upgrades and I can probably sell all of the stuff I have for more then I paid or grow into it.
Best bang for your buck will be gears and a cheap used performer, trick flow, cobra, or tmoss ported lower intake.
I dont know exactly what kind of MPG I get but it seems pretty bad, nothing like what you guys are getting im sure. What could be the reason for poor MPG? Car runs great and is well maintained.
