How do u guys get an aftermarket deck (standard size, 7x2 I think) to fit where the mach 460 deck goes? I notice the mach 460 deck is a litter bigger. Is there a kit I can buy?

A Mach 460 deck is standard DIN size.

You need to post more info.

mine is also, my alpine head unit fit in perfect without any install kit. I'm not sure if the newer cars have larger radio's now.

If you pull the Mach 460 Deck out you will find a standard DIN size hole. No special mounting kit is needed.

If you are measuring the face of the Mach 460 deck it is actually a little taller and wider than the hole it is in.

My 02 GT with Mach 460 is DIN +1/2 . Definitely needed the install kit it gives a small opening which will hold 2-3 CDs.

Oh, the car's a 97 gt and just eyeballing it, it looked like the mach 460 deck in there is bigger...so if the aftermarket deck fits fine is there a real noticeable gap around it that the bigger mach 460 deck face covers?

Ohhhh....you must have the 6 CD in dash version?

It apears we are incorrect. All '95-up Mustangs (all Fords actually I think) seem to be DIN and a half.

The install kit at Crutchfield is only $19.99.

everything fits snug, like said above when you pull out the unit you will see that the opening is smaller then the radio face. My Alpine is the same. with the faceplate removed and trim ring off its the same size as the opening. After installation of the trim plate that came with the radio it looks bigger like the stock unit.

my stock headunit was single DIN. thus the simple replacement with an aftermarket single DIN unit.

Further research has revealed it's dependant on the year. Despite similar outside the dashes had some significant changes through the years.

my 98 had two units, cd player below, tuner up top, I just went and got a pocket from Best Buy then got the wire harness, and if your new to this, all you have to do is match the colors to your new unit. I would reccomend and Kenwood unit. Gotta love those HPF's.

I have 2 units also in my 97, tuner on top and cd below, which works perfectly, b/c I'm replacing the tuner on top w/ a Kenwood head unit I ordered online, and the bottom cd unit I'm replacing w/ this other thing that is the same size as a head unit and it connects to a 20 gig hard drive so I can rip like 3000 songs on it, it's gonna be sweet, and according to u guys everything will fit fine.
