Just curious as to what kind of aftermarket speakers you all have? Do you think that they sound good?

for subs i recomend the jl w7 or if your not looking to spend that much the Jl w3, jl is the best in subwoofers, for interior speakers i would go with the alpine type x or type r they sound crazy.

I just installed Alpine 6x9 Type Rs in my truck and powered em thru a 200W amp...Insane sound, crisp, clear, and they hit like a sub....200.00 a pr...
I have the Mach 460 in my car and cant believe how these sound compared to that....
As long as your drive them with an amp, they'll hit good...if you under power them...its a waste, they're 200W speakers...I tryed powering them thru my deck, a Pioneer SuperTuner 3 and it sounded ok...but power them as they should and they're incredible...Im sure they are others equal to Alpine...I happen to run their stuff and love em...

Pioneer, Alpine, and Audiobahn are all good brands of speakers. If you're looking for nice sounding cheap speakers to run off of your deck, go with the Pioneers, if you want to run it off of an amp go with the other two brands.

I have an eclipse 5-1/4 in each door, along with a kenwood tweeter at each side-view mirror trim piece. They were an immediate improvement in my car, as I had the low-end factory stereo. The eclipse speakers were $50 for the set on sale at a local stereo store. I had an alpine type R 12'' sub powered by a 1,000 watt kenwood amp, but it was vibrating my car apart to I took it out. It hit nicely though.

Had Pioneer 3-way 6x8s all around, 2 1" titanium dome tweeters, 2 10" Pioneer Subwoofers, with 100x2w amp. This was all in my 95 v6, and it was powed by a pioneer head unit. sounded AWESOME, i got lots of compliments, it was very clean. Everything was tuned and i had crossovers on everything.

6x8 come in the back of mach setups right? What else will fit? 5x7? What do you have to do to drop 6x9 back there?

can someone explain what each size of speaker is usually good for? Like how do 6x8 compare to 6x9? What about 5x7's? And im guessing based on crutchfields website, we can fit 5 1/4" speakers in our door where the 5x7 go. How do those differ? What different types of sound do they give? Is there a size that does everything really well?

Thanks for the help.

I took out my mach 460 pos stuff. For a deck I'm running a Pioneer 9400 (BAD ASS DECK) For fronts I'm running Focal componets, a 5 channel class D crossfire amp, and two crossfire 5x7's for the rear fill with an image dynamics 12" sub. I reccomend the pioneer 9400 deck to anyone. Does everything. Comes with a mic you put in your car and it automatically listens to itself to set all the gains and such automatically. You can also download pics from the net onto it for backgrounds.

6x8 = 5x7. The 6x8 is ford's invention & they are the same size as 5x7.

6x9 is actuallt a 6x9, and won't fit into the brackets in the rear, nor the plastic up front. A custom plate would be necessary to fit 6x9's, and it's not worth it IMO.

I have Infinity Kappa Series 5x7 all the way around with a 170W rms amp powering them. The amp a cheap one, but it sounds extremely clear and....just plain beautiful.

The Kappa series speakers retail for $150/pr, but you can get them for half that on ebay. They are worth every penny. But you need an aftermarket amp to power them, not the crap they throw in receivers. I had my 50Wx4 receiver powering them for a while, but once I got the amp installed, the difference was night and day.

I was looking at those alpine R-series and the 6x9's handle a lot more RMS power than 5x7's. Are 6x9's that much better?
