Ok, I heard washing our cars with dawn (dish soap) is a horrible thing to do...so what kind of soap should I use to get my car sparkiling (sp?)

BTW--I don't want the Mr. Clean AutoDry ...I want to dry my car myself!

Mr clean is it...but you can dry (scratch) away all you like with any car soap.Car wash soap is all the same no matter who made it or how much it costs, it's all in how you protect the clear coat (clean/swirl remove/glaze/wax).

I use liquid soap, that hand stuff you buy for bathrooms and such. I find it suds nice, cleans excellent, smells nice, and NEVER leaves a residue. Plus it is not a harsh detergent.

So what's the 411 on how to use the Mr. Clean...I broke down and bought it today. However, I did hear there is a trick to it NOT leaving a filmy residue to it...HOW? Washing it Friday!

I have used almost every car wash available and so far, Meguiars NXT wash is the best that I have seen.

The most important factor you should look for in a car wash product is how well it lubricates. Most scratches and swirls happen during washing and drying the car. Suds are nothing more than fluff, they do absolutely nothing towards cleaning or anything else for that matter. Not sure why they seem to be so important to a lot of people. The best off the shelf car wash I have found is Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash. It offers very good lubrication, is sudsy for those who like that and leaves behind a nice gloss when you are done. A close second would have to be Meguiars NXT Tech Wash. They are completely different products though. Gold Class car wash has detergents in it and is designed to bead water whereas NXT Tech Wash does not have any detergents in it and it is designed to sheet water. They are both great products but go at the job of cleaning your paint a little differently.

I've used a ton of different soaps.
Meguiars NXT
Meguiars Gold Class
Mr Clean Autodry

I've used others too, but the two meguiars ones are my favorites. I do have a problem with there being stuff left over on my paint when I use that mr clean thing. Maybe its not getting rinsed all the way or something? I dont know. Anyone else have problems with it?

I had the same problem, wouldn't completely rinse off and also wouldn't dry. I had to rewash with my normal car wash to get rid of all the residue. I have only tried it once though, I plan to call Mr Clean and get some suggestions as to what I might have done wrong and will give it another try before I take advantage of their money back guarantee.

Well, I will give you some tips, the mr clean system is not gonna clean your car by itself. Here is what I normally do, I put some mr clean soap in a bucket with sponge and fill it using the mr clean water. Then I rinse the whole car down, and wash it in four sections, front, side, side and rear. I spray soap on the car, then use the sponge to rub it all in. Then rinse that one side with mr clean water, I think its the second little knotch over on the cleaner. Then after you do that to each side, try to be quick about it, rinse the whole car with the filtered mr clean water. Dont skimp on this part, I normally do the whole car 2 times, extra time on the windows. Then just let it sit. Done, no spots!
