IAC trouble

So my idle air control valve is on its way out again. I was wondering if there was a place I could get a replacement and fix this problem myself. How hard is it to install. I had the dealer replace the last one under warranty and the job only lasted a year and a half maybe 2 at the most. Any info is appreciated.

Um, i think that autozone sells them . make sure it comes with a gasket. Its SUPER easy to remove the IAC. Mine hasnt went out but we removed it when we changed plenums (obviously). I think they are around $50.
Also clean the old gasket off of the plenum.

I prefer OEM on most newer (replacement) emission and fuel injection parts. OEM usually supplies upgraded or "improved" designs a lot faster than most of the part stores.

Are the IACs at the stores remanufactured too? Dang, I thought they were new. We have had more problems with remanufactured parts....its amazing how much longer new parts last. So I retract my statement...go to www.modulardepot.com and go to the ford parts section. Randy will get you one.

wow I didn't really want to pay $70 for something that's going to go out every 2 years. Is that normal? Could the dealership have put a remanufactured one or some other bs last time?

Autozone has them for $50. I'm pretty sure they're not remanufactured since there's no core charge.

Iac is bolted on the front of the upper plenum. It is held on by two blots and is horizontal, cylinder shape with a plug on the left side. When you purchase one , you will see it.

Rough idle, decreased performance, and when it gets really bad the car will die when you let off the gas.

Take it off and spray carb cleaner in it. This only works for so long but it has for me, twice.

No biggie, just whenever you can is fine with me.

So as for my other Q, is it normal fro the IAC valve to only last for a couple of years and then die?

On the Stang, I wouldn't think so. The one on my other Ford lasted 11 years.

Edit: As for spraying it with carb cleaner... You stand a good chance of ruining the internals with a harsh cleaner (been there done that). However they do make carb cleaners that are sensor safe. So if you choose to clean vs. replace just use a cleaner that is sensor safe.

I must have lucked out and bought the gentile kind as I've had no issues due to spraying it. This a part I've been meaning to replace. The problem is that once I've sprayed it, and it works, I forget about it!

Yea mine doesn't look like that unfortunately, but I found it and put the IAC on no problems so thanks anyway. Now about that little black thing that spins on the top of it, what does that do? I've turned it while the car is on and nothing happened at all.
