I got into an accident a few hours ago. I was driving in the right lane of a 4 lane road. The lane to the left of me was really backed up. This lady was in the left turn lane facing me, and someone that was in the backed up lane to the left of me, waved her through to turn, right in front of me. My driver's door blasted open, and my airbags went off. It burns like hell, and tastes like crap.

It did trigger the inertia switch as well. The lady's Taurus was in the shape of a C. I knocked her into a complete 360 degree spin.

What really pisses me off is, it was in an accident a long time ago, and the passenger headlight was replaced. It always looked dumb after that, because of the driver's side light being so old and faded. LOOK AT WHAT SURVIVED THE IMPACT COMPLETELY! That stupid headlight, and the fender that was backed into by a friend of mine.

Insurance is handling it right now. I kinda hope it's totalled, but I doubt it will be.

You can see my ooga horn now!

this was about 2 weeks ago, friday the 13th of all days. i got cut off and i swerved into a pole.

no total for me. i was kinda hoping the same thing because i was worried about how it will drive, but the engine was fine. the only mechanical part i need is a new radiator.

if they dont total it, it might be a good time to get some aftermarket parts. i ordered a roush bumper, a steeda hood, and im still searching for an h pipe, since mine got squished. body shop is also painting a cobra spoiler i picked up earlier that week.
initial estimates were $6400 or so, but the body shop i go to expects it to double.

mine is an 04, and the fenders didnt even get a scratch. you being an 01 with banged up fenders, you might teeter on the edge of being totalled. it all depends on your insurance company. some go as high as 80% of the value before they deem it totalled. your body guy can also recommend it if he sees more damage than the adjuster.

Sorry bro!!! Its good your ok though. Hope your insurance works out in your favor. Beware though, because the insurance company is gonna try replace all your parts with aftermarket Taiwan parts. I dealt with this a couple of months ago when My 03 Mach was rearended. They are either gonna try to get all aftermarket BS, or used OEM.

In those situations, the driver that "waves" the car through should get a ticket or fine or something.

I know they're being nice, but it is not a safe practice.

That turn lane "waved someone through" situation is a classic cause of wrecks.

If you only control ONE LANE OF TWO in your direction, DO NOT STOP SHORT AND BE F'N WAVING PEOPLE THROUGH

I hate that situation so much, I see people set it up and make it happen EVERY DAY in rush hour traffic

I'm in insurance and see this happen all the time. This is exactly why I don't wave anyone through. I do not want to be responsible for someone else's wreck. Drive at your own risk.

So, I went to Collex today and talked to an adjuster. I think my car's done, because the guy was walking around my car putting yellow X's on everything that was damaged. He didn't even look too far into the bad area; all he did was lean down and say "Yeah, your frame rail is smashed.". He didn't look too interested in getting too detailed with the deep damage inspection, although he kept saying "It's not too bad; we can fix this.". One of the things I was excited about, was when he was looking in the interior, he said "Hey look, your instrument cluster window cracked from the airbag." Yeah, that has been cracked since I got my car, so if it does get fixed, it will be better than when I bought it. They are going to call me tomorrow with the final judgement.

Now, if the car is totalled, what happens? Do I get some tiny check for crappy trade-in value or something? I still owe like 5 grand on it. Also, will I get it back if it's totalled? I still have the Bullitts on it, and the exhaust that I would like to get back. If it's not totalled, can I ask them to just order a different hood and bumper cover, or would I have to buy them up front and take them to the shop for install?

talk to the guy you want to have your work done at. see how he likes to work. my guy told me to buy all the special aftermarket parts i wanted put on and have them sent to his shop. he's going to cut me a check for that cost when i give him the receipts, so long as its in the price range that the adjuster allows. anything over, im going to pay, but that might only be a couple of hundred dollars for parts that would normally cost me $1500 alone, never mind paint and install. that will be covered by insurance.

i called up steeda for my hood, ordered it and had it shipped to the autobody shop. i called roush, found a local dealer for their parts, and had them send a roush bumper to the shop. now, im searching for a prochamber, and ill have that shipped there too. if you do it right, you only have to make phone calls, and just have it all sent to the shop. no lugging crap around.

just find the right guy, shop around if you can. too bad you didnt live near me, the guy i go through has to be the best around.

if your car IS totalled, then i believe they just cut you a check for what they believe the car is worth, not on what you owe. you would be fine, since you owe around 5k, but youd be screwed if you owed 15k and they value your car at 10k. then you have to pay 5k for something you no longer own. you wont get it back if its totalled. the insurance company will try and sell it for parts and make back whatever money they can. id bet you could take your aftermarket parts back though. dont know if you'd need to put stock pieces back on though. i dont see why not. they wont take any of it into consideration when they value it. im not sure if all insurance companies are the same, but thats how they do it in MA.

I got a call saying that my car just went under the knife for closer inspection, for a more accurate appraisal. I really don't want her totalled. Wish me luck!

If anyone's interested, they document the whole process with pictures, and you can check it out online.
