air conditioner problem

so today a really loud noise started coming from under the passenger side dash where the fan for the a/c is. this noise only comes on when i turn on the a/c. it is just a whirring noise if anyone knows what im talkin about. does this means that i need to replace the fan or that something got sucked into it? thanks in advance.

your A/C clutch is more than likely taking a chit and needs to be replaced

Does it make this noise when you use heat or just Vent.. because if it's under the dash thats where the blower motor is. Because it does not make any sense if it's only on A/C since the heater/vent/a/c functions all share the same blower and temp blend door.

The a/c compressor clutch the above post is referring to is under the hood. it's mounted on the front of the A/C compressor and what it does is allow the compressor clutch to freewheel when you are not suing the A/C I doubt this is your problem if you hear a whirring noise under the dash..

I think the most likely cause of this problem is something has gotten into the blower motor.. either a object of some sort or some sort of vermin.

I am sure you missed that he said the nosie is under the dash, I have done that before on here ... as long as he is right on where the noise is I don't see what else could be the problem..

ok my dad said that something probably got into the fan somehow. i'm guessing the fan he ws referring to is the blower u are referring to. so can i fix this or do i need to take it in?

yeah me and your dad are talking about the same thing. It's not a hard job at all. under the passenger side of the dash youi will see the blower fan motor in the case, just remove the 4 8 mm bolts and take the connector off.

I had a dead mouse stuck in my blower motor once...the smell was worse than the sound

yea really easy job, just make sure you dont mess up the foam seal thats on there or youll get air blowing out

haha. it was a napkin that got sucked up in there. it was makin a lot of noise for a napkin. i took it all apart and thats all that was there and so i put it back together and turned the air on and no noise. problem fixed, and now i understand how my a/c works. thanks for the help.
