'94 GT 5.0 bought 4 months ago. Runs very well, several things deleted by previous ownership, including by-passing smog pump with shorter belt. No CEL, no CM codes (?? why? Dunno). Pump still there, spun by hand, feels OK. Bought proper belt, installed today, pump blows air, makes no noise. So far, so good.
Have Diverter Valve bought new, will need two solenoid vacuum valves, not yet obtained, the piping and check valves are still there. For the helluvit, I attached a hose from the pump to the line leading into the heads. Idle quality improved! Nothing really wrong before, though. More helluvit, drove about 8 miles, no noticeable change in running quality, CEL turned on a short time, then off. Same again, later. And so on. Pulled 2 CM codes: 181 "Truck Only" HO2S switched rich", 182 "Truck Only" HO2S switched lean". Believe I understand the truck only thing, more later.
Can anyone tell me the routing of the air injected: for example, low eng. speed, maybe into heads, high eng speed dumped down to cat converter, or vice versa? Charles O. Probst explains it without detail, PCM controls smog air, but not where or when.
Second, is pump inlet air non-filtered? Where is inlet exactly? See no provision on pump to filter air.
Wife complains exhaust stinks too much at idle in shop, even well-ventilated; my old-factory sense is pretty dead, I don't smell it. Lots of HC, due maybe to no smog pump? Also, very poor fuel economy overall. Before throwing ideas, here's what's been done: new injectors, new HO2S, new plugs, new Throttle Body containing new TPS and IAC.
Whaddaya think? imp
