Alright who has an OBDII scanner?

Freakin car keeps throughing codes. I called around and to scan the codes places are charging $98. Give me break. The scanner is $200. I get the excuse that they just don't scan the codes they take the code and determine exactly what is causing the problem.

Yeah, that is what the code tells you in the first place.

If its your 2000 GT then it should be able to display the DTC codes in the little odometer thingy. This might give you your answer without needing the full scan.

Yeah I have known about that for 4 years now. It doesn't do OBD-II codes.

hmmmm I have acces to one but it may require some sweet talking and it doesnt cost no 200 bux I think ours was 5000 or something like that. Very nice unit though gives all the steps to determine the problem and then correct it.

Is it an OBD-II? I think everything prior to '96 is just OBD.

He said his scanner is OBD II as he bought it for his 1998 Windstar.The 94 Mustang is a V-6 and is supposed to be OBD II from what I have read but I will have to check.

Your stang will spit the codes to your odometer if your doing it right and know what to look for. I've done it on my 2001 windstar a few times for fun to get to know the system. It will go through some tests and **** first, then it will start showing ex: dtc4537. Then you'll have to refer to a manual or something.Good luck.

Right but they are not OBD-II codes. As in o2 codes, Maf error codes, ect.

They will tell you if you have faulty sensors like the oil press, water temp, speed, but not engine fault codes.

Well thats not right cause i just tried it and was able to get a dtc. I had to keep pressing the button but i eventually got there. I just unplugged one of my o2 sensors.

Right but the DTC codes will be different then the OBD codes. The OBD codes are ECU specific, not if there is a faulty sensor.

It will tell you if an O2 isn't working,or plugged in. It won't tell you if the same O2 is reading lean or rich. Just liek it will tell you if there is a missfire. That will not show up int he DTC codes on the odometer.

an obd 2 scanner shows data in a live feed it is really neat to watch. Everything comes up as it happens.

Just as an FYI, Mustangs made prior to 1996 use OBD I not OBD II, and use the EEC-IV processor. You can pull codes from one of these cars using aligator clips and the check engine light, or a $20 scanner from Canadian Tire. An OBD II scanner will not work with one of these cars.
