My cousin has been having problems with something killing his alternators. He thought it was just that the alternator went out and he bought a new one from advance auto parts. Well that one went out and then the next one went out and advance auto parts had to "cut him off" on getting replacement alternators for free. So i was wondering if anybody might know what could possibly be killing his alternators!

What flavor of alternators is he using (new, reman'd, etc)? I have gotten a couple reman'd units which were bad right out of the box. I now have the folks bench test the alts (and starters and batteries) before I even buy them.

Otherwise, if the wiring looks sound, there is not a whole lot else that can do it, that I can think of right now.

Good luck.

yeah, check your wiring. Mine fried too, but it was my voltage regulator and it fried because my fusible link that goes onto the solonoid lug was in horrible shape, broken up, etc and just gave out. I got some replacement 14ga fusible link wire at Autozone and soldered it in; warrientied out the alternator and it was good to go. Not sure if that's your problem, but I'd definately visually inspect the wiring and maybe even get a voltmeter out and check the resistance as well.

Good Luck
