alternator wiring

Im having problems with my alternator on my 69 mustang not charging. Im sure that its the wiring. I understand that there are the three wires coming off the alternator, as I recieved the car there were two that went to the regulator and one big gauge black wire that went to the starter sol. and Im at a loss here I found a wiring diagram but didnt help any. anyone give me ideas?

I had this problem on my '66 and replaced the voltage regulator with a new electronic one... problem solved.

whats the diffrence in a electronic voltage regulator?

There should be a short wiring harness coming off of the alternator. This plugs into the headlamp harness beside the alt. From there the wires either go to the solenoid or voltage regulator but I'm not sure what goes where. If the harness has been cut, new ones are available (it might be easier to figure out then).
Non electronic voltage regulators use mechanical parts inside prone to failure.The electronic one is part number 10316-1 from NPD for $29.95.

well as it sit's now the Orange wire that comes off of the aternator goes to the F post on the regulator then theres a white/black strip wire going from the alternator going to the A post on the regulator then there is the third wire thats a 14-16 gauge wire going to the starter sol. the wire that come from the ignition switch goes to the S post on the regulator..Im really at a loss here i really need some guidance anyone know which wires go where?

Welp thanks for the help guys I went out to a local junkyard and found a merc. commet that had the correct wiring and wasnt hacked up pluged right in and works perfectly no flashing lights even the 61 amp alt keeps up with my electric fan, electric fuel pump, and MSD 6A box...ill be upgrading it to 130amp soon..time for a nice BIG system!
