i know this one is most likely due to water damage because of my hood that i have on...when it rains the vent drips water on the alternator...the thing that sucks is I made a shield to cover it yesterday and then it wound up doing this

Autozone has lifetime warranty on theirs. Might want to pick one of those up. (130A).

Hey JT,

The one that blew now...well it is actually working again as of this moment, im confused...but its an Alterstart, the same exact one you have...The two in the past where stock replacements....one of the stock replacements took only 1 month to die

Dan, I thought you ran a Boss like me. I couldn't remember but that's why I asked.

Do go over your wiring. This stuff vulcanizes badly. At the regulator:
A = battery voltage.

S = Stator. Look for about 1/2 battery voltage. I have the feeling this circuit could be acting up on you. Check both of it's connections (it has a reg wire and loops to the single wire terminal that's in the grey connector).

Also check the Alt fuse in the underhood fuse box. If the fuse terminals are loose, no alternator.

I = ignition voltage. This should be ok unless your battery light never comes on when the alt takes a dump.

And the charge cable itself is a POS. Make a new one if you have doubts. Or FFI sells charge cables and nice new HD regulator if needed.

I have a couple tips on basically removing two of the regulator wires *IF* all the other wires are in impeccable shape. This could be useful for diagnostics atleast.

Good luck bud.

Here are some pictures of the alternator...I know the power wire connection looks nasty but that is fixed now... but the other connection looks like it could be burnt.

replaced mine before it went completely out with a autozone lifetime warranty one about 4 months ago. even with a new one and a new battery, my guage still doesnt show proper charging. no problems but every blue moon it will surge slightly.

i think 94/95 cars just have a charging problem ( with factory and factory replacement alt's )

Dan, did you contact Alterstart already? Their stuff is lifetime warranty (or it was when I got mine). If that's the case, I'd get a 3G from the junkyard (from a stang, Taurus, etc) and run it while the Boss is out for warranty work (you do need the paperwork from the original transaction for warranty work, IIRC).

Man, that wiring looks great. I thought we were looking at a fan connector for a minute. Definitely get a nice new HD regulator plug and a new stator wire connector if you feel like it (they're about 5 bucks for one wire though).
Good luck Dan.
