am i crazy for wanting this 95 cobra?

I have a 03 gt with 49k miles on it...paid off. BB value on the 03 is roughly 15,000$. I found this 95 cobra http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...ors=&transmission=&max_price=13000&cardist=34

Do you think it would be wise to sell the 03 buy the 95 free and clear and pocket the cash? What are some common problems with the 94-95 cars...I know all about the foxes but sn95s are kinda new territory

Thats a tough call. I think it boils down to personal preference. You could build one hell of a car with HALF of what you save by selling your car and getting the cobra.

The harmonic balancer is the one thing to look out for...check if its wobbling.

$9,400 seems like a lot to me....I bought my 95GT from a dealer, 4 years ago, with 60k on the clock, for $6500. You mean to tell me that you can add 30k miles, $3,000 in price, for the same year car 4 years later?

You'd be better off finding a 94-95 GT or even just a cheaper cobra for 6-7k. You'd have $7-8k in your pocket. Thats a lot of cash for a lot of goodies!

Actually that 7-8k would be going towards a house i graduate college in december and would like a hefty down payment on a house...i already have a built monster in my 88

I got my 94 Cobra for $5,500. I'd shop around. There's good deals out there if you look. If you know Foxes, then the 5.0 SN won't be too different. Now whether to sell your 03 for a SN....that's a tough call. The SN will need more attention on a regular basis. Nothing outrageous though. If you can stand a little tinkering now and then.....the extra money would be nice.

FWIW, I paid $10,500 for a 1995 Cobra (that was mint, with 65K on the clock) in 2000.

FWIW if you plan on doing after market H,C,I skip a cobra and find a GT. What makes a cobra a cobra is the gt40 components, front bumper, wing, rear 3rd tail light in wing (gt's on trunk) brakes, and emblems. Every thing else same.

i know the differences...i wouldnt be doing a hci package on it. The car would be strictly just to drive

another reason....the gt's depreciation is building fairly quickly and i dont think i will get what i want for it in 2 yrs! Whereas the cobra might hold its value later down the road!

Go look over the car closely and drive it. If the car drives good and is in as good of shape as it looks in the pics then 8200 isn't all that bad. I paid 7,000 for my car but it wasn't in quiet as good of shape as that one. Check the balancer because age wreaks havoc on the rubber in those things and it's not uncommon for even low mileage cars to have the balancer wobbling and vibrating.

I believe the 94-95 cobras will start to increase in value before to long. There wasn't all that many of them built. Good luck with you house purchase.

if it was me, i'd hold on to the 03. those are good cars, fast out of the factory, and it has much less wear and tear than the 95, especially if you bought it new. you know how your 03 has been driven and maintained. you have no idea how this one was driven or cared for.

now if you wanted to build a really sick street ride, then the 1995 platform is perfect. look at my sig for an example.

but to just drive around, i'd stick with the 2003. you'd have fewer headaches and it is a better car all around, stock for stock.

if you do decide to go for it though, another thing to think about as far as bargaining is that modded cars are typically less desirable and actually bring the value of the car down, not up, so that may work in our favor.

i would sell my 03 for 15,500 or so.... That would leave with nearly 8000$ to do whatever i need to with! 8gs would get me into a house fairly well also.Im much more capable of dealing mechanically with a 5.0 that the 4.6. Look in my sig.....i built that 88 entirely myself!
