Cylinders are already bored .030 and I found this while tearing it down. I've heard of 302s being bored to .040 but can this be done? Or would it have to go to .060? I've heard that's too much. Also this is set up as a 347 stroker. Would any more than .030 on a stroker be a bad idea?

You can go 040 over on most blocks. Going .060 over can be done if the machinist has a sonic test machine to determine if there is enough metal left to do a proper job. See https://www.enginebuildermag.com/2017/03/value-benefit-sonic-testing/ for more information.

I’d think at 0.040” over I’d want to sonic test. Talk to a machine shop that has done thousands of these.

At 0.040” over, a common issue that concerns most is heat. They tend to rub hotter. Might be fine in a race car, but not something you’d daily drive or sit in traffic with

302's are a dime a dozen.
Just get another one.
