I would like to possibly have an amp installed in the spare tire well under my hatch carpet in a 88' GT. Not sure what kind of amp or what size, but in general, would this be a good location for it to keep cool enough, etc?

I'm sure you could but I don't think it's a good idea. With it being surrounded by metal theres a better possibility of if something got loose it could arc and fry your amp. a better location would be on the back of your box or on the back of your rear seat

Amen to that.

Additionally, being closed up won't give the amp a healthy lifestyle, let alone a long life. Electronics such as amplifiers or any power modulator require ample or even forced ventilation to function and remain at optimal production temperatures.

Alright thanks for the replys, my reason for putting it there would have been to keep it hidden, but I'll try something else I guess.

It's been a long time since I had a Fox, but is there enough room underneath the rear seat bottom? You may encounter the same issue of heat, but you won't have to lose the spare to do it.

if you put it where the spare goes, maybe add a false floor with a intake and exhaust vent

I have my whole system under a semi-false floor. The sub sits in the tire well, and I raised the floor a little to accommodate for the amps, epicenter, etc.
