I know I'll probably catch flack, but it's easier to ask the question than to search through all these message boards.

So I am sure that if I moved up to a 150 or 200, it would only help my charging.

our cars have the best alt that ford ever made.
I put one into my bronco in place of the stock 65a one.

I would not necessarily look to a larger amperage alternator to help a given issue. If your issue is at idle (for instance), a new big alt might have the same output as the stocker did at idle.

Good luck.

In case you haven't, you should diagnose the system before you make any assumptions.

IMO the only time a bigger alt is needed is when the total draw on system exceeds the charging capacity of the current system (i.e. adding a huge sound system, etc)

I just wish mine would kick the bucket so I have an excuse to replace it. It is an ugly mofo. All gray and old looking sticking right out on top the engine bay.

Why not take the case apart and paint it a nice silver or something??? That would look great and not stand out too much....

Adam L,

I never really thought about using wd40 as a solvent, but it makes sense. I was really just looking for an excuse to replace my ugly one too, LOL. It has never really sucked the battery dry, but every once in a while I can hear it is low through the stereo.
