Yes thats a motor mount. The only side that breaks too, the torque side. That 150 shot probly doesnt help, get a torque chain

Drill a hole through it and put a bolt through. I had a set on my 68 that came like that, but I cant remember who made them.

Why would that cause the water pump to fail?

Did it on mine with one 1/2" bolt (countersunk). There is not much clearence, so make sure the countersunk is flush with the metal support.

I used to tear motor mounts up, so I put a bolt though as well. However, I used one 1/2" Grade 8 bolt on mine, its not countersunk and it fits.

Cheap easy mod that works- I haven't broke a motor mount since doing.

If your motor mount breaks, you motor moves.

Be thankful it only cost you a water pump

maybe the fan hit the shroud???? I don't see any other way that a motor mount could damage a water pump. Regardless, glad you got it fixed.

We have a winner!

Failed mount caused the fan to hit the shroud. The fan and shroud survived without much damage, but I found a green puddle under my car the next day.

cj pony parts has a polyurathne kit (motor and tranny mounts). I have these but have not tried them out yet though they claim you wont break these.

Yeah, the reason I didn't use a TCP or urethane mount was that they will transfer more motor vibration into the car. My TCP strut rods do that enough, thank you very much.

Well what do you think those bolts are going to do? If you arent experiencing vibes from that then you are very lucky. I tried that on my first stang back in the 70s due to an idiodic high speed downshift from 4th to 2nd. Broke one mount as above and partially the other not to mention put a huge dent under my hood. (you could see the air filter impression in my hood) This is only my opinion but poly has got to be better vibe wise. Bolts just dont give.

The bolts use nylock nuts that are just snugged, but not tightened. So the mount can move just a bit, but works as a positive stop for the mount. In theory, it should still dampen engine vibes. I never ran my new engine without these mounts and can't make a comaprison, but it isn't harsh at all.

I did the through bolt mod on the stock mounts in my '68 and didn't notice any increase in vibration. I tightened the nylocks until they contacted the mounts then backed them off 1/4 turn.

On the '68 one side needs to be flush so I cut off the bolt head and welded the bolt to the backing plate then ground it flush. I've had them this way for about 3 years now with no problems...

I believe Lakewood makes a rubber mount similar to the bolt mod, correct me if i'm wrong.
