Well, here's what I started with. Bolt on GT, ran perfect...what am I doing?!?!?
Upper off. Done this so many times, takes minutes.
Torn down to the heads.
Down to the shortblock. Looks like just a little bugger in there.
And the goodies to go on....
I had Tom Moss port the Edelbrock lower. It looks fantastic! Very well done. Should flow in the ~250cfm range...right about what the heads are at at max lift. There's some more pics below with it on the car.
Degreeing the cam. I wish I would have researched this alot more before I tore the car down. It's actually really easy to do, even though it seems real daunting at first. Crane has a really good article. Read that like 10 times over and finally started to get the hang of it.
The heads and rockers finally installed. It feels wrong putting those shinny things on the engine and covering them up. They should hang up on the wall or something.
My buddy with an 89 Fox cam over when we installed the heads and valvetrain since he's done it a million times before. He was real helpful in getting the rockers exactly right. They are practically silent when the car is running...alot quiter than I thought they would be. He trimmed the Fel-Pro 1250's so that the lined up perfectly with the heads.
Little more buttoned up. Starting to look like an engine. Got some fox valve covers. Prolly clean them up a bit later.
Whoever said MAC headers suck! Well, they do compared to Kooks, but for the money they are awesome. Bolted right up with no problem!
Check this out! The Tom Moss ported Edelbrock lower flows perfectly to the head. Glad I trimed those intake gaskets! Thanks for the great work Tom!!
The fox valve covers are damn close. They touch the altenator, barely clear the TB and the EGR rests right against it.
Rigged up a CAI for a little while. Going to be swapping to a fox style TB and fabbing up something else. That 80mm PRO-M is HUGE!! I'm going to have to cut even more of the fender to get it to fit.
All done!!!
Now, the meat and potatoes...
Started the car Tuesday night. Ran okay...surged pretty bad at first, but suprisingly 10 minutes later the car would idle rock solid on the stock EEC. I took it out for a drive Wednesday night and chit it was a dog. I tryed to check the timing but everytime I tryed to pull the spout it just dyed. That made me think the timing was way off. I checked it with the spout in and it was around 10*....way too low with the spout in. I bumped it up just so I could take the spout out without it dying on me. It worked, and I bumped the timing up to 16*. I figured the timing was probably around 6* when I drove it Wednesday night. Well anyways, took it out for a drive tonight and HOLY CHIT! I only went half throttle up to 4k rpms and the car is MUCH faster than my car was last year at WOT. I was the weirdest thing because I was at 75mph before I even knew it and I wasn't even really getting on it.
All I have to say is that I am very satisfied with the car!!!! I have a dyno tune on June 16th and a track session June 25th, 26th and 27th.
