Well....I saw a spot of oil under my car yesterday, almost middle of the car. Today I jack her up, and look underneath to see a nice tranny leak. It looks like its coming from the very back of the tranny...near where the shaft attaches. Strangely enough, its coming from the top of that part, where the shifter attaches. Can't tell exactly where from underneath, so I'll try to pull the console. Anyone have a clue why I'd be leaking tranny fluid from near where the shifter attaches?

Get this, can't get it in until next Sat....and the stinkin' Ford dealer doesn't do loaner cars. Poll----does anyone ever get a loaner car from Ford. Our freakin Hyundai dealer even gives us a loaner for our $14k Hyundai, but can't get one for $25k Mustang under warranty?

See attached photos....one of my baby....one of the leak in my baby. This car hasn't been very good luck so far. Had a slight brake leak at the master cylinder....still makes that rattle noise I'm sure everyone has heard me go on and on and on about. Now this. I take the rubber boot off the shifter itself, and it looks like the oil is coming up through the shifter....and not necessarily at the seal between the shifter and tranny. Unless the fluid is flying back up towards the shifter. Anyways...see pics!

Thanks!

AND HELP!!

Hmmmmm.....not too many replies. Have I worn out my welcome?

Is this a good time to consider the MGW shifter? Been researching....Steeda Triax sound great, but noisy. Haven't really read any complaints against the MGW. Was hoping to save for the Steeda Catback exhaust...but looks like a shifter might be in my near future.

Ok...dumb question. All the pics I've seen of shifter swaps and posts about using ATF fluid...I'm guessing tranny fluid on my 5sp should be reddish right? What I'm seeing leaking it darker, almost like oil.

Is the shifter a contained unit that has its own lubrication built in?....therefore maybe I'm seeing the shifter "oil" leaking rather than tranny fluid?

Try to get underside pics. I thought output seal too...but there is no sign of fluid...stains..drips...etc near the seal with the driveshaft. All the fluid seems to come from the top of the tranny, right at the back. From underneath, I can reach up and feel the top right around where the shifter attaches, and feel all sorts of grease and oil. And like in the pic, from the console, its a greasy/oily mess. And not just from the shifter plate down as one might expect if the seal where the shifter unit attaches were blown. Almost seems to come from the shifter itself since the whole top of the shifter plate is covered in muck. Thanks for responding!
