ok, so ive been really good and havent bought anything for my stang in over 6 months, and all this money is burning a hole in my bank account. plus, my friend's dad is about to dump over 2gs into my friend's TT (downpip, catback, cold air intake, springs, blow-off valve, and chip), and frankly, im gettin nervous hes gonna be faster than me!! my possibilities for my next mod are as follows:

-UPR X pipe and C&L plenum
-C&L plenum and BBK 75mm t/b
-C&L MAF

or if you have any other idea as to how i can get the most hp for the least $$, please help. im getting new 275s all around, so traction should be good.
thanks for the help

Well after reading your sig I would go with the plenum and tb. That is going to be my next mod. But you might also want to look into a cat back to help the improved breathing your engine will be doing.

Well according to 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords April issue they tested the C&L plenum and recorded results of 5.3 hp and 6.4 lb-ft of torque with just the plenum.

Tough decisions. I think the plenum would gain the most, followed by the MAF, then the TB, then the X pipe. But you've got to open up that exhaust too (something I am getting to the point of). What goes in, must come out. Words of wisdom, work the exhaust from the rear to the front, getting a cat-back system first, then an X or H pipe, then headers. My two cents...

Have you guys taken a look at the midpipe on a 4.6? They've got 4 cats on them - imagine the restriction that causes! If it were my car that's were I'd start. As a bonus, with an o/r pipe you'll start to get that "mean as hell" sound even through the stock catback.

Just my .02.

wont i gain at least 5-8 rwhp w/ an o/r x-pipe?? i would think an o/r x and a plenum would net the most hp my only dilemma is wether or not to get a tb to go with the plenum, and if so, 70 or 75 mm. also, am i gonna notice much of a difference between a bbk tb, a fms tb, and an accufab tb??

I think that's an accurate assessment with an o/r x pipe. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with the Accufab T/B - the quality is great, the finish is excellent. I've had zero problems with mine. No firsthand experience with others, though. Again, just my opinion.

the reason i ask about the other tbs is bc ive noticed the accufab is head and shoulders more expensive than any other product-both tb and plenum. and im so poor, i need to save every dollar i can.

OK, so which is it -- rich or poor? LOL

Nontheless, all good recommendations. An inexpensive mod that I really liked on my car was the Ignition Solutions Plasma Booster -- about $289. Certainly was a mod that I could tell an immediate difference with, plus my car just runs so smooth since I installed it. Something like 10 RWHP and 15 RWTQ is what the mags all claim. Unfortunately, I've never had mine dynoed so I can't say for sure.

An Off-Road X Pipe is the biggest bang for the buck of the mods you have mentioned. For what, less than $150, you can add 10 hp or so.

For $300 bucks, I would go with the X Pipe and Pullies. Cheapest way to gain maybe 20 hp, right? (Or, do you already have pullies?). Do you have emissions issues? I can't use an off-road X Pipe in PA anymore. Also, the off-rad X may make you car louder than you really want if you do other exhaust mods later.

I have the C&L plenum plus a 75 mm TB. The car pulls great at high rpms and you will get about 8 proven HP and 14 rwt. But you will need to drop close to $400 to get it. If you are going to add a TB, go with a 75mm. They 75 mm is the same cost as a 70mm and will be better to serve you if you add a power adder later.

Be careful about the C&L Maf. Do you know how this thing works? It leans you out. This is where the increased HP comes from. This may not be what you want.

Good Luck!

The accufab is more expensive and there is a certain "bling" factor with it, but I have had no problems or whistle with mine.

I think the old "tried and true" mods are still the best - x-pipe, pullies, and timing adjuster.

It's funny - everyone used to immediately answer pullies & t/a to every thread like this. If someone even said throttle body, they were tarred and feathered! Now the plenum and t/b combo seems to be #1 on the hit parade. It seems there's good dyno data to support it, though.

a couple mentioned pullies, but thats not an option for me. i have a full audio system, and pullies would totally screw over both my audio and everything else powered by my alt. i didnt think of a TA tho. ive heard this is worth a solid 7 rwhp. is this true?

Don't worry about the pullies and your audio system -- just DON'T install the alternator pully and you'll be OK. How do I know? Simple, I have them on my car, work for Rockford, have 2,500 watts of Rockford amps and no issues . . . Thanks for your support with the 401s! The T/A is certainly a worthwhile upgrade as well.
