Note, I took my R out a couple wkends ago and broke the front side of 4th gear in my tranny on my 1st day of riding. Not sure I am going to be using it much longer. A ton more money to get the trike to handle it

Lol. +8 to most is plently long enough, but honestly, for stright hill shooting and racing, the more the better. Here's a picture before I broke it couple wkends ago.

Great pt. One of the guys that ride in our group just purchased an 07 YFZ, and even on the softest level of the adjustable suspension, it beats him up. Jumping its great, but stickly trial riding, I would get the Honda 450R, or an 86-89 250R.

06 or newer 450R. It has the best ride quality of the 3 big 450's although I have not rode the new Kawi yet. Why did you get ride of your Raptor anyways? You just cant keep anything, you jump from car to car and bike to bike, faster then the darn weather. The Raptor mods are popping up everywhere lately. Those things are going to be bad azz with all the aftermark companies jumping in with both feet to EFI quads. Maybe you should just wait another yr or so for the return of the Banshee. 4 stoke, twin cyclinder 500cc's. I read they will be factory 60 rwhp machines STOCK

my 05 450R ride is nice I guess, factory has a better ride than them all, but mines more of a sand bike cuz I got the kick start ver. I rode out on lake tapps yesterday, balls of fun and mud!

I love my 06 yfz... it can get rough on the rutted up parts if your a p**** but I love it, handles great, jumps great and the power I'm gonna be digging into mine hopefully this winter after the notch is sold since the quad will be my only toy for the yfz's or any of the other 450 sport quads, you can get a thicker seat and add a steering stabilizer and it takes the roughness right out.

Compression on the shocks will need to be set to the softest setting. The preload rings will need to be at the very top. A steering stabilizer is a must. Id get a Quadtech seat as well. A Honda 400EX throttle and TRX90 lever is said to be the most comfortable throttle. There is a carb spring that can be bought off eBay to soften up the carb. My Yamaha will never see Honda parts, so I have a twist throttle on mine. Its great for the dunes.

Ultimatly, a longtravel setup is the best, but its not worth the money for just dune riding. Elka makes a Dune Edition shock, mated to some +1 or +2 standard travel arms, itll really soften up the quad. You can also send in the shocks to be revalved and resprung secifically for you, your riding style, and ability.

A lot can be done, it just costs some money. The 450R is much more comfortable for casual riding.

got rid of my raptor ultimately because the person i rode with stopped speaking. so it hadnt been ridden in a good 6 months.

now its a consideration again because my gf said she will buy one if i get another.. im not a to handle a yfz, but after breaking my wrist, i noticed it fatigues/gets sore pretty easy on the dunes. so im worried a yfz might not be best, ill have to check out the 450r's.

is the 'shee coming back for sure then cory? i heard only rumors awhile back..

Dont think its been confirmed a "sure deal" just yet, but Yamaha is speaking pretty openly about it. 500cc twin cyclinder 4 stroker that is rumored to make 70 fly wheel horsepower.

I totally agree with almost blown, the Honda 450R is the more comfortable of the 450's although I still have yet to ride a new Kawi 450. The Raptor and 450R should be pretty comparible in terms of ride quality. Performance is pretty close stock for stock. Raptor is just a bit faster.

Great thing about duning, you can ride for a bit, then rest and watch others
