Any ideas before I have to sell

I would replace the wire that shorted out for sure. How good are your positive & negative connections to the battery? Have you cleaned them lately? Is there any build-up on the wires to - from the battery close to the terminals?

I had a hot start problem with my 88 GT for a while. The guy I sold it to fixed it for $1.50 by buying new terminal clamps!

Electrical stuff gets old and the heat takes it's toll. I hope you didn't fry your computer.

Dont scare me with that comp talk....I heard ours cost around 700 bucks :( No way I could get that....would the comp even work fried?

SC9450.... what is your email?

The melted one is the smaller red one coming off the battery..the one leading into the fuse box. I took the slide cover off and it looked ok. I guess i should have took the picture with the tape off.

I don't know if the car would run if the computer was messed up, I think I've heard of it happening before though. You should be able to buy one for under $100 though.

Anywho, I agree that new battery terminals are a good idea. They're cheap.

Have you tried going to the Ford dealer to get the codes scanned? If you can see what they say about your problem and then go home and troubleshoot what they tell you. Call some Ford performance shops also and see if they have heard of this exp. before.

The ford dealers here are awful. Most of the shops in my area are awful (Thats why I got into trying to do my own stuff), I would rather get kicked square in the nuts then take it to most places around here however there is a good shop up the road that is EXCELLENT at figuring out what your problem is. They have solved a few issues for me before (like MAF being bad causing misses and such, while 3 other shops tried to charge me 600 for bg flush, tuneup, etc) so I am taking it to them tomorow morning at 7 am and letting them chase it down. Only problem withg them is their labor.....they wanted 238 bucks to swap MAF's for me (That just labor).

On the reliablity issue mentioned earlier, I got a letter today from AAA saying I have had too many towing calls this year so they are gonna have to start charging me  and Im a plus member .... :(

What AAA is doing to you is

.
I have a plus to and if they tried that :bs: on me I would give them an earful! Just ask those guys what they think it is and don't let them work on your car yet until you try fixing the problem first after they tell you. Just tell them you can't afford it now and you just want to know what they think it is.
You said you live South of me, where is that at?

I agree on the AAA thing. they said I have gone over my limit of 4 towing calls per years :( Well the shop called me this morning 2 horus after I dropped it off and said "Well I have some bad news, your probably looking at thousands of dollars here, becuase we dont even know where to start. First replace your alternator after that we are out of ideas, you should take it to a dealer." I was like WTF@# First off I tried 3 alternators and I know thats not it secondly they tell me to take it to a dealer? I was like "thanks anyway I will come pick her up" Now I have to find another shop to look at it.

JR, I live in Fredericksburg about 45 mins south....

Hmmm I've towed my car 4 times in the last 2 months already and they have not said that to me yet. They better not even go there with me. :D
My shopI go to is Excessive Motorsport East in Manassas not to far from you and I would go by there to ask them to look at your car. Call Torey 703 331 1422

:OT: hey 94SC50, i just noticed you're in alexandria. i'm in bethesda, work in silver spring (near UMD). i'd love to see your car  in person some day, but weekends are crazy busy with the family and all ... are you ever in silver spring? email me (if you want) at [email protected] ...

Civiceater - don't take your car to any shops, you're going to get hosed.

Listen to me and JR, you need to replace those power wires and the battery terminals. Like I said, I had a hot start problem on my 88, everything looked fine, but there was a bad terminal clamp.

You can get a code scanner for like $25 at wal-mart or autozone. Pick one up, mine has been worth every penny because it works on allot of different Ford products.

I want to help you get this taken care of, but I don't think it's going to get done by taking the car into any shops.

OK, so the car runs, I had a shop go over every ground and terminal with me and cleaned them all then recharged the battery and it works. Not like it used to but it will start everytime. They only charged me 100 bucks and I was there with the for like 3 hours. BUT...
On the way home my brakes gave out. I dont know what I have to do to get this car to stop hating me, I wash it every week and keep her above half a tank but she still hates me. Please help me with the back problem now I started a new post.
Thanks for everything guys
