CSRP discbrakeswap Mustang Disc Brake Conversion Kits SWAP1

I am wanting to swap out the fron drums of the '73. This kit looks promising and i was wondering if any of you have used it. how well it fit? any recomendations/warnings?

Also, how much of a difference did you notice after swapping?

At this time, I'm not offering the SWAP.1 kit for the 70-73 application. I don't have a proper rotor/bearing set for the caliper.

You can use the swap 3 kit. We just finished installing this kit on a 70 Sportsroof. Added power brakes too-Dennis includes the correct brake pedel if you want power brakes. THis install was easy since we are going with an auto trans.

Used the CSRP kit on our 66. Everything was as advertised, high quality and Dennis was just a phone call or email away to answer questions. And did I mention a good price?
Install was an easy weekend job

Wow this looks great and a good price too. I currently have drums and have been wanting to go with disk but they are a little too much for right now. Hopefully I can afford them later on. So if you can let us know how things go.

will you be offering it in the future. I liked the idea of 4 piston calipers.

Im assuming the SWAP.3 is a one piston caliper.

I bought the kit from Mustang Steve. It's in the box waiting for me to have the time for the install. The kit for the 73 is straight forward and uses the drum spindle. I went with the 05 and up kit because of the decreased cost. The only problem is finding a set of take off rear calipers. The Cobra kit is also available for front and rear.

Vintage Venom also looks to have a similar style kit.

Time will tell how well it all works though

The SWAP.1 will work, I just need to figure out the correct rotor and bearing set for the large pin spindle on a 70-73. The rotor from 68-69 using the large pin bearing set from 70-73 results in the rotor laying about 0.05" too far outboard. I'm sure someone on this board knows the correct combo.

I have access to late model takeoff calipers and rotors; they are very inexpensive (less than $75 for a set of new takeoff rotors and calipers). I have assessed their application to early model Mustang and decided against offering them for this application. When used with a early Mustang OEM hub and drum spindles, the rotor disc and caliper lay about 1.5" further outboard then do OEM disc and caliper.

Ok do you have access to SN197 GT rear calipers and rotors? What price?

I'm not speaking of the rotor to wheel mount surface. The rotor disc/caliper position is further outboard because the rotor hat is short. The problem is that it is not good to place the rotor disc and caliper further outboard than it is with the OE application. One wants the unsprung weight as close to the suspension pivot point as possible.

I don't believe that SN197 rear brakes are commonly available as take-offs.

You are correct about the lack of available rear calipers. I don't think anyone offers an upgraded rear caliper for the SN197. Baer's kit uses the factory caliper and only replaces the mounting bracket and rotor. I can't find a pair on the cheap anywhere. The wrecking yards want to sell the whole rearend as a unit and won't tear one down.

I understand the concept of placing mass as close to the pivot as possible. However, Since this is not a full up race car I doubt it will matter much. I can't forsee any safety issues with it either; or am I missing something?

Oh, then you're going to love the conversion offered by Vintage Venom. I think their kit wants to use a 1 inch spacer BETWEEN the rotor and hub to shim the whole mess another inch outward. Of course that is using a Cobra caliper and rotor and I am unfamiliar with the offset of the rotor in that application.
