Hey everyone, I've got a 96 GT convert. that I'm thinking of trading in on a 2000 GT coupe. I'd appreciate any comments about problems or reliability concerns that have been experienced with a 2000 GT. It's been owned by a Ford mechanic, and comes with a Hurst shifter, Flowmasters, and 3.73 gears installed. And it's only got 46,000 miles! Sorry to sound like a salesman, but I want to switch and need a little more information. The two test drives went great and everything seems to work.

P.S. Is the 2000 GT still a t-45 or is it the 3650? I had a problem with my T-45 when I bought the vert.

we love ours. previous owner did change IAC once, my 99 has had it changed twice and cleaned countless times since new.

T45 is your tranny, I have had no problems with mine and it has 80+k of total disregard for its well being

I have had very little trouble with mine, if you can get a good deal, go for it.The only down side is, of course, losing the ability to drop the top.

2000 is a good year, espcially if u wanna add a blower..2001+ have higher compression. usually people with 99-00 are able to push more HP/TQ on the stock block.
T45 has its problems but t3650 has some too.

IAC...............Idle Air Controller
When they go bad they'll cause your car to stall often, at stoplights and such.

I had to replace mine as well...My 2000 GT is only driven on the weekends it has 30,000 miles. You will defiently love the 2000 GTs, I have had no transmission problems and it's only been in for oil changes minus the IAC controller.

Stalling when Cold

That is exactly what mine did when it started to go bad. Eventually my car started cutting off everytime I pressed the clutch in..

I'll have to look through my receits to see how much it was to have it replaced at the dealership, I also had them clean the intake as well. I think the guy that had the car before I bought it ran crappy gas through it too much.

My 2000 GT - nothing but routine stuff. Tires, battery, fluid changes etc.
Great car.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll be getting that 2000. Plus, my dad wants to take over payments on the 96 vert, so I'll still be able to drop the top occasionally.

I've only had a few problems with my 00GT, which were repaired under warranty. I've had to change the IAC once (no problems since that). I also had a one fuel injector to go out (repaired under warranty). The only real big problem with mine was it had a leak in the rear of the car. I had it looked at and it was found were "Ford quality was not job 1" and that the trunk area was not sealed up completely. Look in your trunk were the weather stripping is you'll c 2 notches, one on each side of the trunk area not the trunk lid. They should be sealed with silicon. Well the one on my driver side was not sealed. It was completely open. So all the rain, car washes my Stang went through would leak into the spare tire well, the rear seats and under the driver's seat. It had rained so much one month I could go fishing behind my seat. Anyway Ford had the leak sealed and replaced the entire interior @ no cost to me. So now I'm happy with the car. No problems since that last repair and at the rate of me modifying the car I'll have all that factory Ford crap out of the car and replaced with aftermarket stuff .
