you can pretty much bet that the synthetic oil will help a little bit, probably not much though, i'm guessing 2mpg max and likely less than that but every bit helps
Next on the list is that. I changed my oil less than 200 miles ago, but when I change again in 3k miles, the rebuild will have almost 6k miles on it. I know I could easily start on synthetic after 3k, but better safe than sorry. I remember in my '68 the first time I ran Mobil1 it made a great difference in throttle response and gained me probably .5mpg, too.
Come to think of it, why didn't I think of that? This thing's still breaking in. I'll probably see MPG improvements for another 10-12k miles all other things equal...
25 is still killer for a 331, even with all that highway time. and 20/21 with a 347 is about what I'd expect with an overdrive cog on the highways. I've heard that 302's with 5-speeds can touch 30mpg...
