Anybody bother to record MPG on their steeds?

you can pretty much bet that the synthetic oil will help a little bit, probably not much though, i'm guessing 2mpg max and likely less than that but every bit helps

Next on the list is that. I changed my oil less than 200 miles ago, but when I change again in 3k miles, the rebuild will have almost 6k miles on it. I know I could easily start on synthetic after 3k, but better safe than sorry. I remember in my '68 the first time I ran Mobil1 it made a great difference in throttle response and gained me probably .5mpg, too.

Come to think of it, why didn't I think of that? This thing's still breaking in. I'll probably see MPG improvements for another 10-12k miles all other things equal...

25 is still killer for a 331, even with all that highway time. and 20/21 with a 347 is about what I'd expect with an overdrive cog on the highways. I've heard that 302's with 5-speeds can touch 30mpg...

i think it depends a lot on compression and gears, especially in town. run the highest compression you can get away with on pump gas and the 2.73 gears are probably hurting you around town. personally i'd go with a 3.25 gear, my car has 3.25's and it helps a lot in town since the engine doesn't have to work as hard to get the car moving.

i think the best bet would be a 3.25 gear and an aod with the wide ratio gear set. with a mild 302, aluminum heads and around 10:1 compression i think you could really good mileage out of it, even better if you injected it.

I was just thinking about this, over the Holidays I took the exact same trip (to my g/f's parents in the country) that I took in my Mustang but this time I drove my 2006 Chrysler Sebring it has a V6 and maybe 180 HP. It only averaged 23.5mpg! So I am really happy with that 20/21mpg's the 450HP Stang gave me.

I think I got it! Gapping my plugs last night, they were black with a hint of brown-tan on the ends of the electrodes. Guess even though the WOT tuning is spot-on, it's running a wee bit rich otherwise.

In my 1966 6cyl C4, 260k+ miles
100% city driving, 18-22 mpg. I don't drive it on the freeway often.

2001 GT auto 93k+ miles, average 19-21 in city.
On a road trip 310.4 miles on one tank, 75% hwy, I got my best of 24.3 mpg.

Both cars stock.
