I just put a stage 1 SPEC in my 01 and it chatter bad on take offs. Is this normal for these clutches. I talked to my friend who just put one in and his did the same thing. Is this something that goes away?

I'm neither pro or con on the Spec. I have a little chatter but not much. It grabs better than stock but I really can't comment on what would be better because I ahven't tried anything else.

The reason SPEC clutches chatter a lot is because they are actually really grippy. They grab really good. They usually take longer to break in then most clutches. Usually about a 1000 miles then you're good. Mine sucked for the first 1000 but only really chattered in reverse but now its fine. People just need to break in their clutches properly before they complain.

make sure the clutch is adjusted right too. many people put in a clutch and "hate it", even thought they dont adjust it right, which probably causes half of all complaints. IMHO, you need a new cable, quadrant, and firewall adjuster with any aftermarket clutch to get the engagment right. if it catches too early, you will grind a lot of gears. too late and you will have the tendancy to slip the clutch harder, causing excess wear.

I have a Stage 3 in my car. The break-in is a bitch, but mine went completely away and holds every bit of my horsepower. I haven't run the car at the track this year yet, but I'll bet it'll get me in the low 11's. Great clutch... The times I have in my sig are from a severely slipping Centerforce. Centerforce clutches are the best until you hit about 400 RWHP, then they go to crap. The just can't hold the power like Spec.

It was 100 times better at 1000 miles, but still a little chatter, especially in reverse... After about 2000 miles, it egaged just like any other clutch... No problems at all... forward, or reverse..
